As we reported back in April, as part of the upgrades to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, the floor of the resort lobby is currently being replaced in phases throughout the summer. When we last visited the resort, half of the lobby was wrapped in plastic black tarps. Construction has now moved on to the other half of the lobby, with only a tight hallway for guests to walk through.
The good thing is that work seems to be progressing, with a bright, all-new floor installed inside one half of the lobby.
This matte black tarp is a definite improvement from the garbage-like tarps from before, but the top half leaves much to be desired at a hotel where family suites easily start at $300 a night.
The hallway that leads to the transportation hub (park busses, Magical Express, Disney Cruise Line, etc.) at the resort is now reduced to one doorway.
The area where you can learn how to draw has new flooring as well.
Parts of the lobby still have the old tile flooring, and there are mats laid out where the two parts (old flooring and new) merge for now.

We’ll keep a close eye on the lobby as work continues throughout. The reflooring and refurbishment project is set to be completed by September 7th.
