REVIEW: New Destroyer Punch, Galaxy Juice, I Am Root Float, and More Celebrate Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live at Fife & Drum Tavern in Epcot

It’s time to rock to the cosmic groove while stirring up an appetite because “Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live!” is back at Epcot! This out-of-this-world musical event features your favorite Guardians and their alien band jamming out to timeless classics from the ’70s and ’80s. And in addition to singing and dancing, Disney has whipped up some cool specialty foods and beverages just for the event.

Over at Fife & Drum Tavern, just outside of The American Adventure, you’ll find quite the selection of specialty items…

Awesome Mix Slushy – $8.25

The Awesome Mix Slushy is a frozen blue raspberry, strawberry, and lemonade slushy served with a glow cube.

The blue raspberry flavor is pretty domineering in this drink and its a bit syrupy, as all of these drinks are. Without the vanilla ice cream addition of The American Dream version sold here, this really leaves a lot to be desired.

Destroyer Punch – $5.00

The Destroyer Punch features orange, pineapple, and lime juices and grenadine

A fruit juice with pineapple and orange-forward flavors, with some pulp present. I don’t know what more to say except that it’s $5 juice.

Galaxy Juice – $11.00

Destroyer Punch with orange, pineapple, and lime juices and grenadine, adding cherry bourbon to make it an adult beverage.

This is the alcoholic version, but we couldn’t taste it. Us trying to find the bourbon was like Peter Quill looking for his dad. We never found it, but at least it wasn’t a living planet that tried to kill us. Gotta look at the positives here.

I Am Root Beer Float – $5.25

The I Am Root float features Barq’s Root Beer with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and mint leaves.

A pretty standard root beer float, but a nice option for the oppressive summer heat in Orlando. It’s not the worst thing to grab before getting your seats for the Awesome Mix Live show just steps away.

Spiked Root Beer Float – $11.00

Adds Stoli Vanilla Vodka

A personal favorite, the Stoli Vanilla Vodka really kicks this up a notch. You can taste the alcohol a lot, and I think it blends well with the existing flavors. I’ll be grabbing a few of these this summer.

Mix Tart – $5.00

Mix Tart strawberry-filled shortbread cookie

The Guardians of the Galaxy are rebellious and irreverent, often listening to a lot of anti-establishment tunes from their various Awesome Mix tapes. So they gave them a shortbread cookie with a strawberry filling? It tastes like a strawberry Nutrigrain Bar. Not that I dislike Nutrigrain bars, and this has a lot of veery tasty strawberry filling, but this probably was one of the lazier creations they could have concocted.

These specialty items will be available at Epcot through August 18th, 2019.

  1. Mmmmkay. I don’t have an issue with a Guardians ride at EPCOT. Nor do I have an issue with these being sold outside it when it opens. But selling it now in the US pavilion is a bit much. Peter Quill was an American kid, sure. But that’s literally the only tie that IP has to the US. Avengers themed treats makes more sense, but I’m sure that’s part of the “agreement” with Universal that they can only sell merch.
