Grim, grinning ghosts will be melting in the summer heat, but that doesn’t seem to be bothering Master Gracey. The awnings covering the queue leading up to the Haunted Mansion have been removed, leaving balmy souls at the mercy of relentless heat and summer storms.

The awnings closer to the mansion remain, so you’ll only have to suffer a bit before being transported through the comfort of an air-conditioned doombuggy.

The Haunted Mansion has gotten a few improvements in the past few months, with it becoming the 13th attraction in Walt Disney World to feature PhotoPass on-ride photos. We’re happy the Haunted Mansion is getting some love, even if it means standing in the sweltering heat.

Fear not, the awnings will be replaced in time, and we’ll keep an eye out for any further changes to the queue in the coming weeks. Now, look alive…

  1. They apparently like to do the hottest projects in the hottest time of year. Walking across the desert Oasis that is the main parking lot, thru the tunnel and all the way to the end of the security stands in 100 degree heat and thunderstorms isn’t very pleasant either. I realize things need to be done but some things make more sense to do in the cooler months. Walking back to your car in a severe thunderstorm with tons of lightening is just plain dangerous.

    • Hey, as far as the heat/storms, that’s Florida in the summer, pretty much the way it’s always been.

  2. I think Disney cared less about weather and more about how many guests would be affected by this maintenance. There’s likely an attendance dip right now so they’re performing upgrades before the September boom.

    • Andrew, you know when attendance dips? After the park closes..they should have replacements ready to go and replace what they can overnight…. Right ?

      • Holly, thank you for taking the time to correct my auto spell , the first thing I’m going to do when I get home is have a little Chat with SIRI and let her know how she upset you……are you a bored school teacher on summer break ?

        • The reply should have been – “Holly, thank you for taking the time to correct my spelling”. Period. Just trying to help.

  3. It was my understanding routine maintenance is routinely done after New Year’s Day, so that most projects can be completed before “School’s Out” (May / June).

I’m guessing this ‘late start” is meant to be completed in time for ‘Halloween Prep’ (September). I look forward to seeing ‘improvements’ , provided they are aesthetically complimenting the Haunted Mansion. 😀👍

  4. I would have loved to see a photo of people standing in the horrible conditions you mentioned. That queue moves really quickly so it is not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be. Melodramatic.

  5. Interesting. I was there just today and it looked totally covered. Granted I didn’t get into the actual queue because 75 minute wait at 12pm isn’t my cup of tea. But I did stand at the entrance. Thought I would have seen that. Oh well, replacing an awning doesn’t take a lot of time, should be done in a few days.

I can do heat in shade, but direct sunlight is just torture, especially when no wind is hitting me!
