BREAKING: Fantasmic! at Tokyo DisneySea Ending March 25, 2020

In the whirlwind of D23 news, some very sad news came from Tokyo today, as it was silently revealed that Fantasmic! will come to an end after nearly nine years of performance on March 25, 2020. There is no replacement yet announced for this beloved show. More details are likely to come, as I wouldn’t imagine DisneySea going without a nighttime show for too long, especially with the Olympics on the horizon.

Fantasmic! opened at Tokyo DisneySea on April 25, 2011 as part of the park’s 10th Anniversary celebration. Show director Steve Davison described it at the time as “Fantasmic! 2.0” as it features a similar structure, yet different style from its American counterparts, including the “Imagination” theme song. It takes place entirely on the waters of Mediterranean Harbor, featuring Mickey Mouse on a giant sorcerer hat interacting with others.

Overall, I’m heartbroken at this announcement. Fantasmic! is the perfect way to close out an incredible day at the world’s greatest theme park (in my opinion, at least), and I will be extremely disheartened come March 26, 2020.
