BREAKING: Mary Poppins “Cherry Tree Lane” Neighborhood Coming to United Kingdom Pavilion at Epcot

Just announced at today’s D23 Expo’s “Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products” panel, a long-rumored, yet surprise Mary Poppins neighborhood is coming to Epcot.

Originally thought to become a flat spinner ride, it appears the project was expanded into its very own neighborhood in the form of “Cherry Tree Lane.” As part of this new experience, guests will step in time down Cherry Tree Lane past Admiral Boom’s house, then enter Number 17, home of the Banks family, where their adventure will begin.

With the sequel to Mary Poppins released in theaters last year, Disney has a renewed interest in bringing Mary Poppins to Walt Disney World. Mary Poppins formerly had its own scene in the now-closed Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

No details on an opening date were released.

  1. This sounded like more than scenery. Sounded like a ride. He called it an attraction and said the adventure begins when you step inside the Banks house.

  2. I fear they’ll have to get rid of the buildings already there. The buildings represent England’s history of architecture. It’ll be a shame to get rid of that.

    • Looks like the new buildings are going in the back of the pavilion, where there’s currently nothing but trees. The row houses adjacent to the Banks’ house in the concept art have existed since 1982, so it doesn’t look like anything will be removed.

I’m very curious about the attraction, any show building would need to be wedged between the current UK pavilion and the old Millennium Village behind it, unless that is being demolished or utilized as a show building.

    • From the images Disney provided, it looks like an addition at the back of the existing pavilion – where the small park and gazebo are located now. It doesn’t appear the original buildings will be touched; in fact, they appear in one of the images.

  3. I would LOVE to see this be a dark ride at the UK pavilion! Have you seen the extra footage on the anniversary dvd? One of the (almost) original imagineers came up with this yeas ago and pitched it as sort of a Peter pan like ride, flying over London/scenes from the movie. I hope it’s from the original poppins movie, though, imho.

  4. IDK, I think it’s a bit late for EPCOT to start adding more rides to World Showcase. I’m definitely not against it…I’m very excited. I just wish they went through with the ride in Germany way back when.
