Joe Rohde to Receive 2019 Lowell Thomas Award from The Explorers Club

You can only imagine my shock when I see a DM on our Instagram account from none other than Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde expressing his delight and honor at being a 2019 Lowell Thomas Awardee.

That’s right, as if our favorite Imagineer and armchair art historian/anthropologist wasn’t amazing enough already, he will be honored by The Explorers Club for his merits in wildlife conservation and cultivating creative innovation through storytelling via his numerous projects with Disney, namely across Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Founded in NYC in 1904, The Explorers Club promotes the scientific exploration of land, sea, air, and space by supporting research and education in all aspects of science.

Rohde will be honored alongside four other awardees, including Ellen R. Stofan of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, polar and sub-polar geologist Bruce F. Molnia, distinguished marine scientist David L. Mearns, and Robert L. Fisher, a research geologist emeritus, at the 2019 Lowell Thomas Awards Weekend, hosted by The Explorers Club Washington Group in Washington D.C. on October 11th.

Congratulations, Joe Rohde! Or should we say, Kungaloosh!
