Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is famous for lots of things, like having almost no shade outside in the blazing Florida sun. We’re notable critics of the corners cut in Toy Story Land, but it seems Disney has been listening to Guests!

This morning, our reporters went to Slinky Dog Dash and discovered something new!

That’s right! There’s finally a shade structure in the Slinky Dog Dash queue, after a year (and two blazing summers). It even looks like it somewhat fits thematically!

It doesn’t look quite like it’s completely done yet, but the queue is open.

It appears so far that the canopy only covers this switchback area, but even a little bit of shade is better than standing in the open Florida sun!

I think my only concern here would be that these look semi-opaque, which still might let in some sun and heat. (And rain? Forget about it.) But again, even a bit of shade is better than none at all!

It’s nice to see Disney listening to their Guests’ complaints and responding appropriately. What do you think of these new canopies? Do you think they fit with the rest of the land? 1. with as narrow and tall as it is, its only gonna work at noon, after that, well its looks good, it needs to be shorter and wider, and given it looks flat, it going to pool water also

  2. People who designed/built/installed the shades must have no idea the sun follows an ecliptic path…. All I see is shade for high noon, won’t be doing anything at 10am or 4pm.

  3. They added some shade to the first 10 minutes of the queue; after that, you’re still baking in the sun. 8-9 out of the 12 months of the year, yea, it’s not a problem. We were there in July this year and it was unbearable. People were getting visibly upset. I mean, this is better than nothing, but it still makes no sense that the first 1/3rd of the queue is uncovered. Even a pergola would be great, and incredibly cost-effective. Sigh.

    • Florida in July, you’re pretty much guaranteed that it’d be hot.
If Disney built a domed, full length canopy over every queue/stand by waiting area the cost would be significant and we’d all end up paying for it with admission price increases that would be higher than we already get each year

  4. Looks to be installed a bit too high for the narrowness of the canopy… People standing line from maybe 11am – 1pm may get the relief but it doesn’t look like it’ll offer much more than that. I’ll have to take a look later today. Nice to see they’re doing something at least though!
