Just because the old Mickey & Friends Character Spot is now closed, doesn’t mean you still can’t meet Mickey and his pals while you’re in Epcot. The family-favorite meet and greet area has temporarily moved across the breezeway to Character Spot North, where Baymax, Joy, and Sadness are currently located.
As you walk into the park, there’s signage pointing guests in the right direction towards Innoventions West.
There’s even a new temporary marquee at the entrance to mark the opening of the new Character Spot.
This is also where guests can meet Baymax, Joy, and Sadness, but it appears you can’t get to that area from here due to it being blocked off. They’ve decided to keep each meet and greet area separate despite it being in the same building, so keep that in mind in case you’re looking to do both meets.
The meet and greet features a fun and colorful postcard display as a backdrop. You’ll recall that at the old Character Spot, the backdrop was covered in very ’90s computer icons:
So we’ve gone from that relic to new backdrops celebrating the future of Epcot… but notice how they’re essentially just updated versions of their old backdrops, which is adorable:
Mickey is first up on the lineup with an amazing Spaceship Earth postcard display.
Then guests move onto Goofy, with a fabulous World Showcase and monorail postcard backdrop.
Lastly is Minnie with a Flower & Garden postcard backdrop, naturally.
Here’s a complete walkthrough of the area.
We love that they actually tried a bit with the interior of the meet and greet location instead of just transferring over old backdrops or opting for a barebones display. If you and your family are planning on visiting Mickey & Friends, do keep in mind the new location, and say hi to Goofy for me!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE the new backdrops!
Hopefully they will still be using them in September 2020, when my husband and I visit WDW.
