MagicBand RFID Readers Added to Guest Room Doors at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa

According to Twitter user @dvctopics, MagicBand readers have been added to hotel room doors at Aulani in Hawaii. People who have recently stayed at the hotel said they still use a keycard to unlock the door, but they do use the new reader.

While MagicBands are not at use at Aulani just yet, Aunty’s Beach House, the kids club, has been using custom printed MagicBand 2.0’s. This practice is similar to the Youth Activities Oceaneer’s Club on Disney Cruise Line, where they are used to check children in and out of the club.

Recently, however, Disney sent out a survey to guests asking about a potential Aulani app and if they would want to use MagicBands at the resort. This indicates that Disney has been researching the possibility of using MagicBand technology at Aulani for hotel room locks and payment at cash registers.

When, or if, MagicBands are implemented at Aulani is unknown at this time, but all signs seem to point towards the adaption of the Walt Disney World technology.

  1. Doesn’t really seem like something that would be worthwhile at Aulani unless they feel that it would be a cost savings vs having to hand out wristbands everyday at the pool to get towels.

    • They can also just as easily go with RFID cards but I think they would be better off allowing both cards and MagicBands since they are so widely available. If they adopt it then I can see Disneyland making a switch in the future. MagicBands really offer a much better experience.
