The other day, we noticed some final touches going on the new EPCOT tram loop and realized it was just about to open… and today’s the day! As part of the new, re-imagined EPCOT, the entire entrance has received an overhaul, streamlining the arrival experience for all guests, regardless of what mode of transportation they opt for.
Guests who park still have the option to walk up along the new walkway or take the tram all the way up to the new drop-off area. It’s not as close of a drop-off as it used to be, since trams used to drop you off directly into the space that is now the new security screening area, but it’s an improvement from the previous temporary setup.
Some temporary queues are set up for when guests are dropped off at the new tram turnaround station.
From there, guests walk directly over to the new security screening area. Note that this new security screening will be used by guests arriving from the parking lot or the buses. Guests arriving by monorail will not have to go through security a second time.
Looking back at the newly opened tram loop, you can appreciate the new futuristic lighting features that illuminate the walkway from the parking lot. Those planters over to the right of the above photo close off the other side of the tram loop, which has yet to open.
Security screening now takes place under the monorail platform as opposed to the temporary tent setups that were used up until now. We tried to bring you more photos of this area, but due to security protocol, photos are not permitted.
A view from the monorail gives us a look over at the other side of the tram loop and entrance that has yet to be completed.
Walking over from the bus loops, you’ll want to stay to your left if you’re heading to the park entrance.
That’s because the right side is exit-only now.
The pathway, which is lined with some scrim-covered fencing (since there’s still work being done here) leads you right up to the new, expanded security screening and bag check area.
We noticed that going through this security area is much faster and efficient now, with the addition of many more tables and bag checking stations.
For reference, monorail guests exit onto the opposite side of this area, within the security envelope.
You’ll notice that this is the same Monorail building that’s always been there, so it’s clever that they retrofitted the new security screening area into this existing, shaded ground level of the building. They got to keep with the park’s original sight lines and aesthetic without having to add or demolish anything. (Totally different story once you’re actually in the park, though…)
A look at some of the new lighting fixtures along the redone arrival experience areas.
If you’ll recall, these are the old security screening tables. The new area is located off to the back of this photo.
Guests now pass by the old screening tables on their way out of the park.
Still curious as to how the whole arrival experience and security screening process works? Not sure where to go? Check out our video where we walk you through the arrival process via bus, parking lot, and Monorail, below:
What do you think of the new arrival experience changes at EPCOT? There are still many more changes in store, so stay tuned!
So glad to hear that people coming in on the monorail won’t have to go through screening a second time!
I always thought going thru 2 screening was ridiculous coming from MK to EPCOT and not two screening from EPCOT to MK. I had hoped they thought of this and they did!!!! Can’t wait to go to EPCOT Monday to see it.
Absolutely love that monorail guests won’t need to go through security. It’s great for monorail riders but really benefits everyone. The monorail drops off a bunch of people all at once so security was always backed up with each arrival. Now parking lot and bus people won’t have to wait behind that big slug of people.
