While at the Beach Club Resort today, we decided to stop in to check on how work is coming along at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. The ’50s-inspired ice cream destination closed in August to undergo extensive refurbishment. It was announced last week that the refurbishment schedule has been delayed, with the new projected re-opening date being January 2020. With this new piece of news, we wanted to see how things are shaping up at Beaches & Cream.
Construction walls extend out from the building, concealing the new storefront. These went up back in late September. The walkway isn’t fully obstructed by the walls. Guests can still use this walkway to travel between the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.
Mickey is here to ensure safety!
Signs direct guests to Beaches & Cream’s temporary location inside Ariel’s.
The Beaches & Cream Soda Shop mat is laid in front of the door leading into the temporary location.
The shop was closed while we were there (it’s open from 3:00-11:00 PM), but we snapped a shot of the menu through the door’s windows.
From inside Beach Club, we managed to get a shot into the temporary location. The black curtains hide any refurbishment progress. We did smell fresh paint, though! We expect the location to feature additional seating upon reopening.
We walked back to the arcade to see if we could spot any more work. Black curtain are hung behind the arcade games.
The entrance to the work area is stanchioned off
We found this sign that looked like it’s seen better days. We wonder how many kids have ripped this thing off the curtain for it to end up in this crumpled state.
We’re curious to see how the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop will look after its refurbishment. We really hope it retains its retro-inspired feel that makes getting ice cream there so fun! Check back at WDWNT for all construction updates happening throughout Walt Disney World Resort.
Yeah, Disney + will definitely be over when that opens…
