Season eatings! Holiday snacks have landed in Walt Disney World, so it’s time to put your stretchy pants on. Today, we were at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to try the new Double-Chocolate Peppermint Ice Cream Sandwich. Say that three times fast!

You’ll find this colossal-sized treat at Dino-Bite Snacks in Dinoland U.S.A. Now let’s get snacking!

Is it as pretty as the picture on the menu? No, but we don’t really mind. The “bread” of this sandwich is two richly flavored double-chocolate chip cookies. The cookies by themselves would be great, but then add the fact that the top cookie is dipped in a swirl of red and white royal icing. It’s sweetness overload, but we don’t mind.

Now let’s get to the filling! Between the two cookies is two hearty scoops of vanilla ice cream. The vanilla compliments the chocolate cookie nicely. Any other flavor of ice cream would make this rich dessert too decadent. The vanilla works perfectly to balance all of the sweetness.

The edges of the ice cream filling are rolled in candy cane sprinkles. Made of real candy cane, the only change we would make to this dessert is more sprinkles, because they’re so tasty. The minty flavor pairs nicely with the vanilla.

Overall, this dino-sized ice cream sandwich is a great addition to the holiday snack offerings at Animal Kingdom. For $6.99, it’s easily enough food to split between two people, making it a great value as well as tasty. Be warned… it’s a bit messy just because of the sandwich’s size, but this dessert is worth that minor struggle.
