Disney+ Reaches Over 22 Million App Downloads, Earns Top Spot on Apple and Google’s App Stores

The launch of Disney+ has been a blockbuster success, according to MarketWatch‘s Jon Swartz, with the streaming service earning over 22 million app downloads since its launch November 12th.

App-tracking firm Apptopia claims that Disney+ has 9.5 million active mobile users daily, earning the top spot on both Apple and Google’s app stores. And while Apptopia does not include numbers from “smart TVs, Roku boxes, Apple TV or desktop web browsers,” a spokesperson for Disney added that the app has had over 10 million sign-ups from “mobile devices, smart TVs, and desktop computers.”

Apptopia also added that while Disney+’s launch did have a momentary effect on Netflix’s traffic, the rival streaming service has “resumed normal volume.” Whether Disney+ will continue to have this success well into the future is still to be determined, according to Apptopia. While the service offers a free seven-day trial to all users and a free year to Verizon customers with unlimited data plans and new Fios TV subscribers, it’s likely that the subscription price will be raised in time, which may affect budget-conscious subscribers.

Disney has said that it will not reveal its streaming numbers during the next quarterly report and declined to comment on the Apptopia report.
