BREAKING: New “Type C” Monorail at Tokyo Disney Resort Enters Service on May 21st, 2020

Back in September, we revealed the new Type C monorail series coming to Tokyo Disney Resort from spring 2020. These new monorails feature a redesigned interior with more space, and a distinctive multi-color stripe on the outside. Today via Twitter, the Oriental Land Company revealed that the first monorail will enter service on May 21st! We also saw some new concept art. Let’s take a look!

A special video, including the delivery process we reported on in December, also came with the press release. The video details the construction and delivery process of these new monorails. It’s actually quite fascinating!

Above, you can see the concept art for the new monorail, previously released in September.

Both the height and width of the interior space have been widened, and the seat shape is changing from a curved seat to a long seat. This decision was made to improve the boarding/disembarking process, and to make the trip more comfortable. In addition, each vehicle has a free space for wheelchairs or strollers, and wide free spaces are in place on the 3rd and 4th cars of each train.. At both ends, the observation seats on the top vehicle have had their seat positions adjusted to allow for better stroller/wheelchair access as well. In addition, the Mickey-shaped straps for standing passengers moved to fit three different levels, so Guests of all heights can reach them. Also, the lighting will move from direct overhead lighting to less visible lighting around the ceiling and below seats to create a warmer and more modern environment. As I mentioned earlier, these trains will be introduced starting next spring, and will roll out through 2024. This means they’ll (hopefully) complete the fleet following the end of the Tokyo Disney Resort 40th Anniversary celebration!

We’re so excited to see these new monorails! The original Tokyo Disney Resort Line monorail fleet has been in service since 2001, so it’s about time we see new trains. Are you excited for these new trains? Let us know below or on Twitter!
