Due to Coronavirus concerns, we’ve been actively monitoring the status of fingerprint scanning at all park entry points throughout the resort. These fingerprint scanners are touched by thousands of people every day, and given the transmission rates of Coronavirus, it seems Disney is trying its best to keep these as clean as possible.
Today at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Cast Members were seen wiping down each MagicBand touchpoint and finger scan base after each guest that came through.
As you enter the park, the faint smell of hand sanitizer and disinfectant fills the air.
Managers are overseeing that each Cast Member remembers to wipe down each station after use.
With confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Florida and California, the Disney Parks division has had to enact heightened sanitation measures across the parks, including increased availability of hand sanitizer stations throughout Disneyland Resort and also at Walt Disney World.
In the latest official statement, the company addressed the overall increased sanitation methods at all Disney Parks:
“We have very stringent sanitation procedures in place at Walt Disney World Resort. We are in close contact with health agencies for information and guidance, and at this time, we are continuing to communicate to our Cast the importance of preventative measures such as frequent handwashing and rigorous cleaning processes.
“For guest convenience, we have placed additional hand sanitizers throughout our parks and resorts and will adjust our protocols as the situation warrants.”
We’ll be keeping our eyes on developments here in Florida and in California, as well as in Paris, and Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong regarding the COVID-19 outbreak’s effect on Disney Parks operations and beyond.

🙄As the CEO for less than 2 weeks? The parks are in their largest season of growth and investment ever for that matter. But why even bring it up on this? At least Disney is doing something to help ensure guest safety. It would be awesome to see this done more often for that matter.

They should have been doing this way before! It’s so gross putting your finger where 100,000’s of folks have touched before.
Why don’t they do that every day any way? With the $$$ WDW costs, I expect it to be kept cleaner.
They’re wiping it down after each person touches it. That’s a very intensive process. Of course they wipe them down every day.
Before coronavirus, I was always a “little” neurotic about the bag screeners checking everyone’s stuff without washing hands or changing gloves… especially since I bring a water bottle in with me. I wonder if security will adopt new sanitizing procedures as well. However, I recognize that this would slow the process down even more, which isn’t something anyone wants. In my mind, it makes more sense for security to be cleansing than the touchpoints, as the majority of people know to wash/disinfect their hands after touching anything.
Perhaps they could just do away with the fingerprint scanning for the time being. I get the security measures they gain from it, but at high traffic times they often don’t do it, so why not just make that exception for now.
Will be safer to deactivate the fingerprint reader during this crisis, just check the ticket or magicband at the touch point !
Resale will not affect safety of guest and sometimes they deactivate it when there is to much people. And if they wanted they could use the california system with the picture of the guest.
I can appreciate that the Disney Corporation is taking steps to help fight the Coronavirus. I have an autoimmune disorder. So I’m always on guard. And to Mr. Corless thanks for giving your input on Mickey’s Runaway Railway. I do wish Disney would get back to what Walt wanted for his guests.
I’ve been in the parks all this week and I have yet to see any hand sanitizer in the parks. My daughter and grand daughter and I were commenting on it the past couple of days. I was also in Hollywood Studios this morning and I didn’t see any cast members sanitizing the finger scanning stations

Why don’t they just disengage the fingerprint touch points now? Crazy!
Are they waiting the required 30seconds-1 minute most sanitizing wipes and even bleach-based product require for full disinfection?
If not, this is pointless.
At Disney Studios yesterday they were not wiping them down after each guest so we asked and were told they get wiped down once an hour.
My husband and I were there a week ago and voiced our concerns to a few cast members about the touchpoints given the status of the spread of coronavirus. Each one rudely replied, “Just go wash your hands if you don’t like the touchpoints.” I complained to a guest relations cast member. Looks like the company finally understands that none of this was being handled correctly.
