A new food truck is hitting the streets of Disney Springs today with the launch of The Hot Diggity Dog Food Truck. The truck, which specializes in gourmet hot dogs, will be parked on the Disney Springs’ West Side starting at 5 P.M. today.
If you were a fan of the “Hot Dog of the Month” at Casey’s Corner at Magic Kingdom, these are going to be similarly loaded-type dogs. There’s a BLT Dog, a Santa Fe Dog, a Reuben Dog, a Chicago Dog, and a Texas Chili Cheese Dog. A nice addition to these 1/4 lb all-beef hot dogs is all of them come equipped with mouth-watering, house-made chips, which can also be loaded in the same flavors as the dogs. A special Hot Diggity Sauce can also be added for some sweet and heat action.
The truck itself is new, so we took our time taking in all of the fun details, as well as the grub setup.
There are basic condiment packets available to further dress up your dog.
Napkins, forks, and knives are also available. Given the messy nature of these super-loaded hot dogs, you’re going to need them!
Keep a sharp eye out for some hidden Mickeys throughout the truck!
Now, let’s take a bite out of these new Hot Diggity Dogs and loaded chips!
Texas Chili Cheese Dog – $12.25
Texas Chili, Cheddar, and Corn Chips
A tried and true classic for any hot dog connoisseur, the chili cheese dog is a staple. This dog is pretty straightforward with large chunks of chili and a smattering of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
The one thing that may be different than some of the hot dogs served at Disney is the fact that they cut the dog in half, letting the toppings rest in the middle of the dog itself. That’s just one thing we found in common with all of the delicious hot dogs on offer. The bread is toasted and soft on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside. There are the perfect amount of toppings with each as well, so they’re not heavy or soggy, but they’re evenly dispersed for each bite.
The chili––in Tom’s words––is bangin’. There’s a nice amount of corn chips, shredded cheese, and chili. The size of the hot dog might be smaller and more expensive than at BB Wolfe’s, but we think this chili cheese dog is definitely better than the one at BB Wolfe’s.
Chicago Dog – $12.25
Pickles, Tomato, Red Onion, Sport Peppers, and Yellow Mustard
The hallmarks of a Chicago style dog are yellow mustard, chopped onions, and pickles. That is all present in this hot diggity dog, with an added hot diggity twist. Sport peppers and tomato slices make up the sort of relish of the dog, which gives it a little bit of a kick to it. All in all this combo makes this dog one of the most mouth-watering dogs of the group.
This one is presented beautifully with all the peppers laid out underneath and above the dog.
There’s just the right amount of mustard drizzled so you get a little mustard flavor, but it doesn’t take away from all the peppers, red onions, pickles, and tomatoes.
BLT Dog – $12.25
Lettuce, Tomato, and Bacon with Garlic-Ranch Dressing
The BLT dog features everything that makes a BLT a BLT: bacon, lettuce, and tomato. The bacon is finely chopped into bacon bits and littered all over the dog, combining well with the finely sliced tomato and omnipresent lettuce. The dog is slathered in a mayo-based sauce.
We’re not typically fans of shredded lettuce added to these types of things, but there is just a very light amount it. The garlic ranch is the highlight of this one, though. As with all the other dogs, there’s a good amount of bacon and tomatoes.
Reuben Dog – $12.25
Pastrami, Swiss, Sauerkraut, and Russian Dressing
If you are a Reuben person and it is your sandwich of choice everywhere you go, this dog is for you. Saurkraut is the glue that holds the Reuben together, and there was plenty of it here. With small slices of corned beef and plenty of Swiss cheese shreds, the only thing missing was a rye bun.
However, while the presentation was on point, we found that the Reuben dog didn’t deliver much in terms of taste. There’s that distinct smell to it, but it’s honestly tastes like a plain hot dog. This one was the only one that disappointed us.
Santa Fe Dog – $12.75
Chipotle Mayonaise, Street Corn, Chili Powder, Cotija, Cilantro, and Lime Wedge
This one’s $0.50 more than all the others, but it was still one of our favorites, if not our absolute favorite.
The flavor here is perfect, and the seasonings and sauce with the corn is perfect. This was the most flavorful of all. It’s even served with a lime wedge. I can’t stop eating this one.
As for the loaded chips, the same flavor profiles apply, just in a lighter, more shareable format given the homestyle, hearty fried chips.
BLT Chips – $7.00
Lettuce, Tomato, and Bacon with Garlic-Ranch Dressing
Santa Fe Chips – $7.00
Chipotle Mayonaise, Street Corn, Chili Powder, Cotija, Cilantro, and Lime Wedge
Reuben Chips – $7.00
Pastrami, Swiss, Sauerkraut, and Russian Dressing
Chicago Chips – $10.00
Pickles, Tomato, Red Onion, Sport Peppers, and Yellow Mustard
Texas Chili Cheese Chips – $10.00
Texas Chili, Cheddar, and Corn Chips
Overall
If this were an option at Casey’s Corner, people would be lining up (even more so than they already do out of necessity for food) out the door for these hot dogs, especially since the monthly hot dog specials were discontinued. They’re delicious, and the varied combinations of toppings make each flavor unique. If you aren’t in the mood for a full hot dog, or are looking for a lighter, snackier alternative, the chips are great as well. However, the Hot Diggity Dogs food truck isn’t at the Magic Kingdom, and its location at Disney Springs puts it at a bit of a disadvantage given that there are already so many great food options here. If you’re looking for an after-work pick-me-up, or a fun snack to munch on before a movie at the AMC, then this is a great option that’ll have you saying, “hot diggity dog!”
very unique and exciting options, my only issue is with the price.
@ Casey’s , you get a footlong at this price point.
The Casey’s one tastes terrible in comparison though
