REVIEW: Welcome Magnolia Terrace to the 2020 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival

Joining the festival family for the 2020 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is Magnolia Terrace. This booth centers around a “cozy feeling with some comfort food inspired by the Gulf region,” and with items such as a seafood boil and oysters, we’re excited to welcome this kitchen to the park (and our stomachs!)

Southern Seafood Boil: Shrimp, Mussels, Crawfish, Potatoes, Corn and Andouille Sausage – $8.00

There’s a lot packed into this dish.

Southern Seafood Boil: Shrimp, Mussels, Crawfish, Potatoes, Corn and Andouille Sausage – $8.00

We found 2 mussels, a potato cut in half, 2 pieces of sausage, 3 shrimp, a crawfish, a piece of corn, and a tiny claw.

The only thing we didn’t like was the potato. It was chalky and had a weird texture, but everything else is great. This was not a potato worthy of Potatoland.

The boil has great flavor. There’s a beautiful flavoring in the broth that elevates this dish.

Aside from the potato, this was a winner.

*NEW* Grilled Oysters with Cajun Butter – $7.50

Grilled Oysters with Cajun Butter – $7.50

The oysters, which we were told were from the Gulf of Mexico, were well-seasoned, but tasted a little old.

They were pretty mediocre.

*NEW* House-made Boudin Two Ways with Spicy Mustard – $5.50

House-made Boudin Two Ways with Spicy Mustard – $5.50

The boudin was presented, as the menu item suggests, in two ways: a fried ball and as a sausage.

House-made Boudin Two Ways with Spicy Mustard – $5.50

The boudin was really good but the portion was small.

House-made Boudin Two Ways with Spicy Mustard – $5.50

Most of us felt that the fried ball piece was the better of the two, but one of our team members preferred the sausage.

House-made Boudin Two Ways with Spicy Mustard – $5.50

It’s flavorful and the mustard adds a nice boldness.

*NEW* Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream featuring Burton’s Maple Syrup – $4.75

Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream featuring Burton’s Maple Syrup – $4.75

The cake got mixed reviews from our crew.

Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream featuring Burton’s Maple Syrup – $4.75
Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream featuring Burton’s Maple Syrup – $4.75

It tastes like a coffee cake, but better than the cake with the berry compote from Pineapple Promenade.

Pecan Cake with Maple Whipped Cream featuring Burton’s Maple Syrup – $4.75

It’s very sweet, almost too sweet, so make sure you share.

The cake is dry, but the sauce makes up for it.

*NEW* Pecan Praline – $4.25

Pecan Praline – $4.25

The pecan praline tasted like edible sand.

Pecan Praline – $4.25
Pecan Praline – $4.25

It’s sweet but just sort of crumbles in your mouth.

We definitely couldn’t eat one of these alone.

*NEW* Wild Heaven Beer Session Citrus Lager, Avondale Estates, GA (4.0% ABV) – $4.50

From correspondence with Wild Heaven Beer President Nick Purdy, “Citrus Session Lager is perhaps the perfect beer for springtime in Florida. Built on a classic Pilsner-style base with notes of lemongrass and sea salt, the ultra bright citrus flavor is filled out with additions of lime juice plus both white and Ruby Red grapefruit juices. ”

*NEW* The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery Amber Ale, Farmville, NC (5.5% ABV) – $4.50

From The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery: “The Duck-Rabbit Amber Ale is a medium bodied beer with a lovely tawny copper/bronze color. The lightest of all our dark ales, this is a great introduction to full flavored beers. This brew emphasizes malt complexity with layered caramel malt flavors.”

*NEW* Parish Brewing Co. Ghost in the Machine Double IPA, Broussard, LA (8.5% ABV) – $4.50

From Parish Brewing Co.: “Welcome to the future. Our collective human consciousness, or Ghost in the Machine, has gained a tolerance for hops beyond what mankind has ever known before. This double India Pale Ale is the necessary outcome. Brewed with obscene quantities of hand-selected Citra hops from our favorite farm in Yakima Valley, WA. Expect pungent grapefruit aromas and flavors, tropical fruit, and less harsh bitterness than most IIPAs.”
