REVIEW: At-Home Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich Recipe From Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Gets A Big YeeHaw

Last week, the recipe for the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was released. This weekend, I decided to try it out for myself.

I am always hesitant to try any of these recipes on my own, because on one hand, I’m fearful that it won’t taste the same (I can’t cook), and on the other hand, I don’t want it to taste so good that I won’t want it when I revisit the parks. But, with the parks closed indefinitely, I needed some of that Disney magic in my house, so we gave it a go.

And boy, am I glad we did.

Not only was this recipe similar to the sandwich offered at Woody’s Lunch Box, it’s also simple and can be accomplished in a few minutes, which means it could easily become a staple in anyone’s home.

We replicated the ingredients listed in the Disney-released recipe as best we could and I highly recommend you do the same if you try this out. It may seem extra to buy the artisan bread, but it’s well worth it.

Since we don’t have a food processor like the recipe called for, we went old school with a hand mixer for the cream cheese and garlic spreads. Since I have absolutely no idea what Double Gloucester is, we also chose to go basic and use shredded cheddar and it worked out well.

After mincing the garlic, I combined it with mayo and salt in the Mickey bowl. Don’t blend, just stir, because it gets pretty thin rather quickly and you don’t want it to become soupy. Next, we prepared the bread, putting two slices of provolone cheese on one slice of bread and two slices of cheddar on the neighboring bread slice. Initially, I feared it’d be too much, because when you look at it, it’s like a leaning tower of cheeza, but again, the right call was made.

Place a heaping tablespoon of the cream cheese spread onto the provolone side of the bread and spread it out evenly and then smush your cheddar cheese on top of that. The garlic spread was spread evenly on each side of the sandwich and taken to the skillet to get nice and toasty. Woody cooked each side about two minutes, making sure to smush the bread with the spatula every now and then to give it a nice golden brown.

And while it may look like a mess, the spreads stayed in place on the melted cheese, and it’s so good that you’ll eat it so fast and it won’t even have a chance to come undone. In fact, it was so tasty that my food critics, a 7 and a 5 year old, scarfed it down and that’s a miracle. This cheesy goodness melts in your mouth and the addition of the spreads brings in so many levels of flavor.

This at-home recipe was the perfect addition to our menu and will be something that we replicate again and again. As you can tell below, word got out and Buzz joined us for dinner and Woody was a gentleman and removed his hat before dinner.

  1. We made this too, used white cheddar cause our grocery store does not have Gloucester. It was amazing, everyone loved this sandwich! The amount of cheese seemed shocking, but it was fantastic. It def was a lot more work than a standard grilled cheese LoL, on quarantine we have the time to make it though. Also we did have it with the standard tomato soup, it really balances out the flavors.

  2. I made this today. Delicious, even my one of the three sandwiches that burned (just the bread). Pretty easy even without a food processor. For the heavy cream in the cream cheese mixture I added some melted butter to heavy whipping cream and made that work. About a third of a stick. I also couldn’t find Gloucester cheese so I used shredded sharp cheddar there. All yummy and quite filling. And I have enough ingredients left to make at least one more sandwich. Just label the leftover garlic mayo as it having garlic or else the spouse gets a surprise on his turkey sandwich later, lol.

  3. Cheese is my middle name and one of my favorite foods but this recipe sounds absolutely disgusting.
