FC Dallas Withdraws from MLS is Back Tournament at Walt Disney World Following Eleven Positive COVID-19 Tests

While Walt Disney World is supposed to act as a containment “bubble” for the athletes of Major League Soccer, COVID-19 has forced one team to withdraw from play.

FC Dallas has announced that they have withdrawn from the MLS is Back Tournament, set to begin at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Wednesday.

The entire travelling party for the club had been quarantined for a week following ten players and a coach testing positive for the virus. According to ESPN, prior to their arrival at Walt Disney World, three players also tested positive for COVID-19. The team has been unable to train since their arrival, and were originally scheduled to play the Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday.

MLS confirmed in a statement that thirteen players have tested positive for COVID-19 at Walt Disney World, with ten players coming from FC Dallas and three coming from two other clubs.
