Keke Palmer Added to Cast of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder”; Original Cast Reunites for Virtual Reunion

The cast and crew of “The Proud Family” reunited virtually for the NAACP’s Arts, Culture & Entertainment Festival. They reminisced about the now 18-year-old Disney Channel show and shared details about the revival coming to Disney+.

Disney announced, “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” in February this year after adding “The Proud Family” to Disney+. The series still has no announced release date, but production has begun.

Keke Palmer hosted the reunion and revealed that she would be joining the cast as a new character, Maya.

Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins is “a 14-year-old activist who relentlessly marches to the beat of her own drum. She is extremely mature for her age and will not hesitate to shut down anyone with her blunt honesty and wisdom. The adopted daughter of mixed-race parents, Maya is new to town, and initially disassociates herself from Penny and her crew because she is skeptical about what she perceives to be the superficiality of cliques. However, Penny eventually gains her hard-earned respect and the two become close friends.”

The reunion featured Kyla Pratt (Penny Proud), Tommy Davidson (Oscar Proud), Paula Jai Parker (Trudy Proud), Jo Marie Payton (Sugar Mama), Cedric the Entertainer (Uncle Bobby), creator/executive producer Bruce Smith, and executive producer Ralph Farquhar. The same cast and characters will be returning to the Disney+ revival, which continues with Penny’s story.

Creator Bruce Smith talked about aging the show a few years, so Penny is now firmly in her teen years and Uncle Bobby is stuck in the 90s instead of the 70s. Ralph Farquhar also discussed putting together a more diverse crew, including bringing on two Black woman directors.
