Earlier today, we got a first look at the iconic EPCOT lucite pylons that were finally installed at the park’s entrance fountain, thanks to Imagineer Zach Riddley. Now, we’re on the ground at the park to see the pylons up close and in person—or rather, as close as we can get given the construction walls that currently surround the fountain.
Thankfully, the lucite towers high over the construction walls, giving guests a breathtaking look at the etched logos adorning the tops of the pylons. Take a closer look at these grand and miraculous additions below:
As you approach Spaceship Earth, you can see the clear crystal fountain pieces jutting up into the sky.
The modern look of Spaceship Earth and the lucite pylons juxtaposed with the lush green trees of the newly-redone gardens strikes the perfect balance of futurism and style.
As we first showed you back in our Project Gamma fountain post from July 2019, the new version of the fountain will harken back to the original lucite fountain that had originally graced EPCOT’s entrance, with large obelisks etched with the park logo welcoming guests with Spaceship Earth in the background.
Yesterday at the park, a new structure was erected for the installation of the lucite pillars. You can see the black metal structure with the padded top level in the photo above, holding the lucite in place while it settles into the crevices at the base of the fountain.
According to Walt Disney Imagineering, the completed fountain is set to be fully revealed later this year.
