PHOTOS, REVIEW: The Alps Makes Its Grand, Cheesy Return to the Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

The Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival has been going since the park reopened in mid-July. However, not all booths opened with the rest of the park, and now we are finally able to review The Alps booth. Last year was this booth’s debut and we were excited to see what they had to offer this year.

We did notice the menu sign incorrectly says “BEVEAGES” instead of “Beverages.”

Our reporter doesn’t usually like Swiss but said this cheese is very mild. It’s served incredibly hot.

The ham is both sweet and very smoky. The potatoes don’t add much, but the cornichons give a nice balance to the heavier flavors of the cheese and ham.

The baguette was acceptably fresh, but the outside crust was slightly tougher than expected. The inside was soft enough to absorb the flavors of the dish.

Overall it’s a pretty good dish for the price, though it is heavy and slightly greasy given the cheese-centric nature, so order with caution depending on where you are in your day

We loved this! It’s an actual block of cheese that they’re melting and then scraping off onto the plate, and unlike many dishes at the festival, this one has a good bread to cheese ratio.

Blueberry and Almond Frangipane Tart with Crème Fraîche Cream – $4.50

Blueberry and Almond Frangipane Tart with Crème Fraîche Cream and Blue Diamond® Almonds

The cream is real, hand-whipped cream, not from a can. It’s very moist inside, and very delightful. Basically everything from here is great. This is the same as last year except the Blue Diamond® almonds are no longer in the dish.

*NEW* Maison Willm Réserve Gewurztraminer, Alsace – $6.00

According to Maison Willm, the Gewurztraminer is “yellow with pinkish hues, the aromatic nose offers passionfruit and hints of rose. In the mouth, the attack is supple yet fresh, with floral notes (violet and rose) accompanying the fruit. The final is well-balanced, enhanced by spicy notes of pepper and ginger.

René Favre Dôle, Chamoson – $7.00

According to Swiss Cellars, the Dôle is “a generous, robust wine that nicely combines terroir and a rustic character along with the fruitiness of red and black cherries.”

Frozen Rosé – $9.00

Frozen Rosé, $9.00

This is the best “frosé” in Epcot. But remember, it is Walt Disney World, so it’s not going to blow your mind. It’s a very nice, light yet enjoyable frosé. Cheers!
