“Open Disneyland” Rally Planned on October 17th as Resort Awaits Reopening Guidelines

While the Disneyland Resort awaits reopening guidelines from the state of California, a rally is being planned to put pressure on Governor Gavin Newsom.

The “Open Disneyland” rally will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 8:00 AM local time. Disney fans, executives, Cast Members and California state legislators are expected to gather at the resort’s main entrance on Harbor Boulevard in the hopes of getting the state and Newsom to release the reopening guidelines. The event has been organized by a group looking to recall the governor. The group is funded by the California Patriot Coalition, a conservative-leaning organization. A Facebook page for the event describes its purpose as follows:

To stand in unity with the magic makers and all of those who believe in the magic for the reopening of Disneyland.

We will be standing for all the 28,000 castmembers who were laid off and with more to come if the gates stay closed.

Standing for the community and businesses that have been affected.

Standing for all the guests from around the world who need joy and inspiration that comes from the magic makers.

Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have remained closed over the COVID-19 pandemic since March. While the state is currently working on finalizing the guidelines, visiting places including the resort and Universal Studios Hollywood along with sending strike teams to Walt Disney World, they have stated that there’s no formal timeline to release the guidelines, with California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly saying that they “will come out when we’re ready.” In an interview on CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Chapek has called the previously-drafted guidelines, which would’ve restricted the parks to 25% capacity and kept visitors to residents who live with 120 miles of the resort, “stringent,” “arbitrary,” and a “mandate that we stay closed.”

As part of the interview, Chapek also said, “we’d like to put our cast members back to work — as many of them as possible — as soon as possible if the government will let us.” Disney has reached return to work agreements with 11 Cast Member unions to help get the parks reopened as soon as possible once the finalized guidelines are announced.

  1. Why would you share this as news? It’s not from the actual parks. Advertising a large gathering for such a selfish and trivial cause is just propagating all of this to go longer. DL does not need to be opened, and this whiner convention won’t change the data, except increase the number of cases.

  2. Bad idea! Everyone gather, someone gets sick, transmit the virus to others, state leaders are proven right! Open Disneyland yes, but this is not the right way to make it happen!

  3. Thank you for sharing. We need to put pressure on the Governor to open up Disneyland. All other Disney parks are open and not having any major outbreaks.

  4. If people want to hide under their beds with masks on for the next few years, good for them. You can only take care of yourself. One person’s fear shouldn’t dictate everyone else’s lives. Enough is enough. We’ll never get through this if they never let us get through this.

  5. This is not ok. You are promoting a conservative rally against Governor Newsom. I am getting tired of how WDWNT is representing this to the public. It’s biased and really inappropriate for a blog.

    • If a rally is to be held by any organization in relation to Disney theme parks, it is news. I didn’t see you complain about us publishing the Elizabeth Warren letter. Everyone is so entrenched in their views that they get mad at anything that might contradict them.

We will continue to post related stories, whether construed as liberal or conservative. We take no political sides.

  6. Everyone needs a distraction from all of this madness we have been going through. Open up the parks, we can follow regulations. It’s our choice, not the government to tell us what we can do. I will be attending with my face mask and Sith suit lol

  7. Shame on the California Patriot Coalition for using the layoffs of 28K as an excuse to push their sick little agenda. Especially when they will not wear masks or practice social distancing. Do we need to ask how little they care?

  8. #1 – It is indeed news because it’s related to Disney Parks. It’s not fake like CNN.

#2 – If you want to live your life in fear, then, fine go ahead. However, don’t put that fear on others and insist things remain shut down, closed and cancelled. Society has a life to live and businesses need to run.
