PHOTOS: Active Construction Spotted Around Proposed Wreck-It Ralph Attraction Space in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom

Rumors of a Wreck-It Ralph attraction replacing Stitch’s Great Escape in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom have been around for years. It was only this past March that a permit was filed for demolition inside the building, and Disney finally announced Stitch’s Great Escape’s permanent closure in July. Now it seems work may be underway on the rumored attraction, with clear construction happening near the site.

We’ve noticed a small box hiding construction over the former Stitch signage in this area before, but a significantly bigger box has taken over the space.

This is directly outside the attraction entrance, where the Stitch’s Great Escape sign once was.

Prior to the park’s closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the queue for Stitch’s Great Escape had been acting as “Stitch’s Alien Encounter” where guests could meet Stitch. Due to social distancing guidelines, meet-and-greets have been closed since the parks reopened in July.

Next door, the Merchant of Venus gift shop has also been closed since the park’s reopening. It had been sitting untouched with merchandise still visible inside, but now a black cover has been put up behind its glass doors.

From inside Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies, the store is still visible behind black walls. This could indicate an upcoming re-theming of the store, which still has two Stitch murals behind the registers. Merchant of Venus and the neighboring Star Traders (which was refurbished last year and is currently open) both act as exits for the attached attraction.

A Wreck-It Ralph attraction is still a rumor, and would not be one of Disney’s “priority” construction projects regardless. Still, we are excited to see what this area may hold in the months and years to come.

I hope this is not yet another overlay using almost everything from the previous reincarnations: Mission to Mars, Alien Encounter, Stitch’s Great Escape… The round theater with the multi sensory experience are over. Start from fresh and create something new please!
