Walt Disney Imagineering is once again developing a Wreck-It Ralph based attraction to replace the “seasonal” Stitch’s Great Escape in Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
Rumors of a Wreck-It Ralph “virtual reality” attraction replacing Great Escape began back in the Summer of 2016, but nothing ever came of them and the project was reportedly scraped. Disney CEO Bob Iger went on to state that they were not looking to add any VR attractions inside the theme parks, and would keep them relegated to The Void locations in Anaheim and Orlando. Rumors insist that an actual Wreck-It Ralph Virtual Reality attraction will open with the 2nd film in the series this November at those Disney Springs and Downtown Disney locations, but now a Disney-created Wreck-It Ralph attraction is being designed for Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom in Florida.
While we don’t really know what this attraction will be (we’re assuming now not-VR based), we do know it will replace Stitch’s Great Escape, which Disney has currently stated is a seasonal attraction (we’re not sure what that means anymore as the show has not reopened since January, even through busy Easter and 4th of July holidays at Walt Disney World). It is possible that Stitch will make his final escape to accommodate the closure of the Tomorrowland Speedway in 2019, which Disney announced this week. Either way, work on the Wreck-It Ralph attraction is very early in development and no actual construction will be seen for a bit.
