This chocolate cupcake is topped with edible gold and silver glitter, which remind us of New Year’s confetti. The white chocolate piece on top resembles the clock striking midnight in Cinderella.

The mobile order menu states this is a “chocolate cupcake with ‘midnight mocha’ cremeux and crunchy cocoa nibs”, but we found the real cupcake to be much different. It’s still a chocolate cupcake, but instead has strawberry filling and champagne buttercream frosting.

The cake was moist and fresh. The frosting was delicious, with a buttercream base that had noticeable champagne notes. Of course, be careful with the blue-colored frosting, as it does stain.

The edible glitter was fun, as were the crunchy pearls, although ours were rather hard.

The eye-catching clock was stunning, but not a hit taste-wise.

The strawberry filling was divine. It was creamy and smooth, with chunks of strawberry. Separately, each part of this cupcake was good, but all together, it was truly a winner.

The flavors balanced each other perfectly, partially due to the proportions of each component. There was just the right amount of sugary frosting and a generous helping of filling, making every bite delicious. It was like the perfect chocolate-covered strawberry in cupcake form.

Unfortunately, like the Fairy Godmother’s magic, this cupcake will be gone come midnight. We would come back for it again and again if we could. Will you be visiting Capt. Cook’s today to grab a bite of this unique treat? Let us know in the comments!
