Yesterday, Walt Disney World announced changes coming to its four theme parks, and beyond, in celebration of the resort’s 50th anniversary. Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley discussed further details of the new lighting coming to Spaceship Earth at EPCOT for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”
The dazzling new lighting will be permanent at EPCOT as it will become a defining feature of the park as Spaceship Earth illuminates:
Spaceship Earth is a unique structure recognized around the world. To honor this idea, our Imagineers have created custom lighting features that literally emerge from her unique architecture. These features will shine across Spaceship Earth’s silver panels and “connect” with one another, resembling shimmering stars in a nighttime sky.
The classic multicolored lighting design has been displayed on Spaceship Earth for nearly 40 years. The colorful design will continue to be maintained and accentuated in various intensity through “programmed expressions that extend into the new main entrance fountain and the entire World Celebration area that continues to take shape.” As a legacy that the team of Imagineers desires to preserve, the rainbow hues are prominent on the newly redesigned Leave A Legacy panels as well as on the main entrance ticketing booths.
