PHOTOS: Installation of Blue Sheeting Begins on Facade of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT

The facade of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT has been mostly enclosed with wood paneling, which means synthetic sheeting is the next layer to be placed.

The blue synthetic underlayment already covers the roof of the building where (we think) solar panels will eventually be installed.

The stairs leading up to the roof have been removed, which indicates work is done there until further notice.

Scaffolding is visible in the corner of the building.

Pink insulation peeks out from behind structural beams.

The new blue sheeting is at the front and center portion of the building.

There are also a couple strips to the sides of the lefthand entrance.

Blue sheets have not been placed around the righthand entrance (at least not that we can see from behind construction walls).

The synthetic underlayment keeps the wood paneling protected from the elements.

Below is concept art of what the building will approximately look like when completely refurbished. Not there are no solar panels on the roof in this art.

Artist concept rendering: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The adventure starts in the Galaxarium, a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. Guests will be invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. The attraction will feature a new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering – a storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees to focus guests on the action, including the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster. This building was previously the Universe of Energy Pavilion and housed Ellen’s Energy Adventure from 1996 to 2017. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind promises to be one of the world’s largest indoor coasters.

Are you excited to join the Guardians on this roller coaster? Let us know in the comments.
