PHOTOS: NEW Buzz Lightyear & Jessie Character Costumes Make Global Debut at Hong Kong Disneyland

After seeing the brand-new look for Toy Story‘s Woody last week, we finally have a look at the new character costumes for Buzz Lightyear and Jessie, making their global debut today in Toy Story Land at Hong Kong Disneyland! The new costumes bear much closer resemblances to the iconic characters from Pixar’s Toy Story franchise compared to the old ones, first introduced in the 1990s.

Just like Woody, the new Jessie and Buzz Lightyear characters are greeting Guests in Hong Kong Disneyland’s Toy Story Land starting today. Thanks to @hugochau.disneylife on Instagram, we got a closer look at these new outfits!

Buzz Lightyear features a much slimmer torso piece, with details much closer to his film depiction. The name sticker has changed from “B. Lightyear” to just “Lightyear”, and the Star Command insignia at the center now says “Space Ranger” above, just like his original depiction. The face, of course, is much closer to how Buzz Lightyear is depicted in the Toy Story films compared to his original costume.

For reference, this is how Buzz Lightyear currently appears in the Pixar Pals Motorcade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is the first change to Buzz’s controversial look at the Disney Parks since his introduction in the mid-’90s.

Jessie’s face has changed from a square face to a more natural shape, and her costume has slimmed out a bit as well. Her pants are now much closer to an actual denim look, and her belt buckle features more detail. Jessie’s hair is also much closer to a braided yarn look now, and her hat no longer hangs vertically off the back of her head.

Jessie’s costume, introduced in 1998 after Toy Story 2‘s release, has also not changed before now.

Along with Woody’s costume update, hopefully these changes will be spotted at the other Disney resorts worldwide in the coming months, so stay tuned to WDWNT so you know when the new costumes arrive at Walt Disney World and the other parks!
