While at Universal Universal Orlando Resort, we stopped into the The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen to check out a few of their Mardi Gras offerings. We were able to sink our teeth into three different truffles and three different macaron flavors.
There are three new truffle offerings for Mardi Gras. The Bananas Foster, the King Cake and a Maple Bourbon option.
You can also get larger assortments of truffles, with a 12 piece truffle box for $31.95 or a 24 piece truffle box for $49.95.
There are similar flavors in the macarons with Bananas Foster, Maple Bourbon and King Cake options for the sandwich cookies.
We got two of each kind of the truffles. The 6 pack box is a bright Mardi Gras green.
We also got two of each flavor of Mardi Gras macarons.
The macarons ended up being a bit of a disappointment, but the truffles surprised us. We often get macarons and skip the truffles, but these chocolates may have changed our ways.
Bananas Foster Macaron – $3.50 each or 6 for $19.95
The Bananas Foster macaron didn’t taste like anything but vanilla, similar (and maybe the same) as the one on the Cinnamon Swirl Cake from the Tribute Store. We thought this option was pretty bland.
King Cake Macaron – $3.50 each or 6 for $19.95
This macaron has a lightly colored cookie with purple and yellow glaze decoratively splashed on top.
The King Cake macaron was better than the banana option and had almost a cake-like texture to the actual macaron but the filling still had a simple vanilla flavor.
Maple Bourbon Macaron – $3.50 each or 6 for $19.95
This chocolate Mardi Gras option has a stripe of gold on the top cookie, which a chocolate filling inside.
The Maple Bourbon macaron was the winner of the three cookies, with a fudgy, almost brownie-like texture and taste with a very light hint of bourbon. Skip the Bourbon Cake Pop from the Tribute Store and go for this macaron instead if you’re looking for a chocolate bourbon type of snack.
Bananas Foster Truffle – $2.95 each or 6 for $16.95
This bright yellow truffle has purple detailing on top, and is shaped like an oval.
The Bananas Foster truffle has a white chocolate outside and is filled with what we believe is a banana and vanilla flavored cream, but that delicious, creamy caramel is what makes this memorable. Any sort of banana flavor is masked by the caramel, but the caramel is delicious.
Maple Bourbon Truffle – $2.95 each or 6 for $16.95
This triangular truffle is mostly dark chocolate, and is adorned with flecks of a lighter chocolate on the exterior.
The Maple Bourbon truffle was okay, our least favorite of the three Mardi Gras options. The center of this truffle is thick but the taste is very heavy on the dark chocolate. You can taste the bourbon flavor slightly, but it doesn’t overpower the chocolate.
King Cake Truffle – $2.95 each or 6 for $16.95
This white chocolate treat has flecks of purple, black and white on the top.
The King Cake truffle is also to die for with a very creamy vanilla center inside the white chocolate shell. We don’t pick up much cinnamon or brown sugar flavor, but that doesn’t stop it from being delicious.
We highly recommend you stop by The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium for their new Mardi Gras truffles. Be sure to check out some of the other Mardi Gras treats we’ve tried around Universal Studios Florida, like the Vegan Brownie Skull and the Bananas Foster Cheesecake Pop.
