White House States There are No Plans to Restrict Domestic Air Travel

Following an earlier report that the White House was considering restricting domestic air travel to Florida, the White House has stated no such plans are in the works. The discussion was sparked by cases of the highly contagious strain of COVID-19 first detected in the U.K. rising in Florida.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, “No decisions have been made around additional public health measures that would change domestic travel.”

The White House also told Reuters “the administration is continuing to discuss recommendations across the travel space, but no specific decisions are under consideration.

The White House’s COVID-19 response coordinator, Jeff Zients, will be meeting with airline executives tomorrow, Friday, to discuss travel safety. According to Reuters, the administration has considered requiring COVID-19 testing for domestic travel, but are not currently moving forward with this plan.
