Characters to Make Distanced Pop-Up Appearances at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Upon Reopening

Guests will be able to see beloved Disney characters at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure when the parks reopen on Friday, April 30th.

The characters will make pop-up, physically distant appearances, similar to how it has been done at Walt Disney World. As Disney Parks Blog explained

From surprise appearances along Main Street, U.S.A., and Pixar Pier to playful interactions, characters from favorite Disney stories will entertain and delight. Beloved characters will pop up in new ways and sometimes in unexpected places as they remain mindful of physical distancing. Certain experiences that draw large group gatherings – such as parades and nighttime spectaculars – will return at a later date.

At Disneyland, guests may see Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse waving from the train station, or Disney Princesses such as Mulan appear at the Royal Theatre to wave and pose at a distance for guests taking selfies. At Disney California Adventure, Pixar pals may wave from the bandshell at Pixar Pier, and guests can share a laugh while taking photos with Mater and Lightning McQueen along Route 66 in Cars Land.

Currently, Disney has been testing out these interactions during previews of “A Touch of Disney,” the hard-ticket event taking place at Disney California Adventure from March 18th through April 19th. You can see Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Pluto greeting guests from the Silly Symphony Swings (and other fun appearances) in the video below.

  1. I’m just hoping that when they open they will allow guests from out of state. They are allowing out of state guests for the Touch of Disney event but not when they open at 15%. The doesn’t make a sense.
