UPDATE: Florida Governor to Take Executive Action Banning Requirement of “Vaccine Passports”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has spoken out against the “vaccine passports” currently under consideration by the Biden administration. The “passports” or credentials are meant to easily prove whether or not someone has been vaccinated, to allow them access to places that require proof.

DeSantis does not support the “vaccine passports”, stating Florida’s approach to the vaccine is to “provide it for all, mandate for none,” although the passport would not be a mandate, only a digital or physical record of vaccination. According to The Washington Post article we cited earlier, the Biden administration is in fact actively working to ensure the passport does not act as a mandate.

DeSantis said it is “completely unacceptable” for the government or a private sector to implement a “vaccine passport” for movies, sporting events, and theme parks. He said he will be taking an emergency, executive action later this week to effectively ban “vaccine passports” in the state.

Currently, vaccinated guests visiting Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort are still required to follow physical distancing rules and wear a mask. Floridians over the age of 40 are currently eligible for the vaccine and those over the age of 18 will be eligible April 5, 2021.

    • Why? Because he doesn’t believe in science? Because he imposed ridiculous quarantine rules on the tri-state area, but refused to take a common sense approach to masks?

    • If President Biden would have been against vaccine passports then DeathSantis would have been all for it! The decisiveness among Political Parties is killing America! It’s not always about who’s idea it was or what Party came up with it..if it’s good for MOST of Americans then it’s good for America! The “Politicizing” of everything has to end!

  1. I was hoping that when we visit Disney World in August, Disney would give some leeway on restrictions if we could show that we were vaccinated. A vaccine passport would be the perfect tool, but DeSantis’ order would seem to negate that possibility. The latest wrong move by the Governor of Florida.

    • Nice try. And you say “latest” as if other moves he made and for which he received media bashing didn’t ultimately work out well for the state. Cute move trying to blame DeSantis for you having to wear a mask at Disney when Disney’s CEO has already indicated they would be required through the year, and Disney has never once indicated a vaccine passport or other similar stunt would result in them removing the requirement. For crying out loud, even the CDC won’t remove the requirement for those vaccinated and they’re the ones begging people to be vaccinated.

    • Think about for just a moment Lou and you will understand why he is going to do it. Say that I haven’t gotten the vacine, for whatever reason. I enter the park with my mask on, walk a little ways until no one can see me and take it off. Now I am in the park, unvaccinated, and without a mask. How is Disney going to know? I suppose they could issue wristbands similar to a special event, but what a huge pain for everyone. Better to just continue the mask requirement for a while longer.

  2. If the intent is to have Businesses Drop all their COVID precautions/measures by implementing admission with Vaccine Passport only policy, then I’m all for it. But my brain tells me that if i come to the parks with my vaccine passport in hand, they will still ask me to wear masks and keep 6′ social distance. They’re not dropping their COVID measures, cause its been a success, Since 7/2020 there has not been a single Covid case tied to WDW. They know it works , so they’ll keep the measures till the positivity rate all over US drops to like 10 cases per day or something. Implementing Vaccine passport will hurt their business.

    • I have read at least one guy who says he caught covid in WDW. He was kicked out of his hotel once Disney was told that he tested positive. That’s why they have no cases. They just don’t talk about how many cases they have.

  3. and yet, vaccine or not, you will still be required to wear your oxygen starving mask on disney property. they say follow the science and yet they are the ones ignoring it completely.

    • Gosh I wonder how doctors and surgeons and all of those people in those costumes are permitted to do their work behind such oxygen starvers. The science proves masks do not lower oxygen levels or intake

      • My sister works in a surgical unit at a local hospital. They are trained on how to deal with masks. They switch them out after every procedure and interaction. They are not wearing the same mask for hours on end. They do not touch their masks except to take them off and put them on. Once per mask. Not laying them on a table or touching them 10x to adjust them at a grocery store. She gets annoyed at that argument. It’s not about the oxygen, it’s about the transfer of bacteria etc each and every time you interact with someone or touch them. We do not use them the same way they do in hospitals.

      • Actually, the science does not prove anything to the fact that wearing them helps. They in fact increase the risk due to the fact people constantly touch them which defeats the purpose. Those are Fauci’s original words before being forced to back peddle for the political narrative.

    • Mis, the next time you go for surgery, please be sure to tell your doctor that your okay with no surgical masks being worn because you don’t want the surgeon or nurses oxygen starved. 🙄

      • You undoubtedly have a high level of expertise and vast knowledge of communicable diseases. So could you please explain to me how with the mask wearing, social distancing, lock downs, excessive use of hand sanitizer, and……a vaccine that is being distributed, how is it we are to be expecting a 4th spike in Covid cases. I laugh at the irony of your moniker, you must be at war with yourself often.

      • Apples and oranges. Wearing masks to prevent spreading infection in open wounds is quite a bit different than wearing one outside or alone in your car. Science and data Combating, science and data.

    • How, exactly, is a mask starving anyone of oxygen? Millions of people wear them every day and no one has died. This notion is ridiculous.

  4. No, we do NOT love #Deathsantis. He is by FAR the worst governor we have ever had. He needs to be voted out before he kills the rest of the idiots who somehow think he knows what he’s doing.

    • You haven’t lived here in NJ/NY where our Governors put COVID patients in nursing homes. Talk about killing innocent people. Appreciate what you have, fool.

  5. My concern with vaccine passports is that they might provide a false sense of security. The highest vaccine protection rate is 95%. While that’s a good number that’s far better than nothing, it still leaves one out of 20 people that the vaccine doesn’t work for. In the country of 300 million, that’s 15 million people who are still unprotected. So if I get the passport and then travel, I am taking a one out 20 chance of catching covid during my trip, and the chances add up the more family members come along that at least one person will catch covid during the trip, pulling a stop for everyone. Being that going to Disney World isn’t really a necessary trip, I am still not going even with passports. Imagine getting sick in WDW and not be allowed to fly back. Safer to be home and wait for covid to be over.

    • Thankfully that is not what 95% efficacy means. It doesn’t mean 5% of people just aren’t protected. It means you are 95% less likely to contract the disease compared to someone who isn’t vaccinated. This applies equally to everyone vaccinated. You currently aren’t guaranteed to get the virus if you aren’t vaccinated (only 1% of the US has tested positive) even if you are exposed. During the trials only 0.04% of people with the vaccine contracted the disease. That’s only 1 out of every 2500 people not 1 out of 20. The vaccine also protects you from severe symptoms if you do get the virus which will mean those 1 out of 2500 don’t have to worry about being hospitalized or dying. It is even more effective if everyone you are contacting are also vaccinated called herd immunity. The more vaccinated family members you have together will not noticeably increase the likelihood of someone catching the virus. Although you are right, that staying home is always safer, getting vaccinated will drastically reduce your risk to covid. Additionally if they implement some sort of mandatory passport rule your risk would be essentially the same as waiting for covid to be over.

  6. I seen the conservabots are alive and well in the comment section. Desantis all but ensured there will be passports by banning them. If he really believed the “provide for all mandate for none” he would have just let it be and let us the people make our own decisions. If you dont want to get a vaccine passport, thats awesome. Don’t get one. The issue is him deciding for the rest of us by banning them. All but ensures it’ll go to court and get overturned, again wasting time and money. Deathsantis strikes again

    • Attempting to impeach Trump twice and approving a massive stimulus package baked with special interest funding most Americans don’t know/care about is the epitome of wasting time and money.

  7. DeSantis is an idiot. Private businesses should be allowed to make the requirements they see fit to keep people safe without DeSantis sticking his nose in things. The federal government could overrule him of course but I have doubts about Biden’s leadership abilities (still orders of magnitude better than Trump but that’s a very low bar to meet).

    • Exactly. This is just more government regulation of business. Businesses have rights. If they want to require something, then that’s up to them. If a movie theater has a movie playing on two screens, and one screen is in a “vaccine passport required” theater and you have to pay 5 bucks more for that ticket over the “open” theater, a business should have every single right to do that, its a form of “premium service”.

  8. “The Biden administration is in fact actively working to ensure the passport does not act as a mandate?”
Who are they kidding? If Biden creates it it will be a mandate, he can’t help himself.

  9. What mask do is force you to breath in your own Co2 and bacteria. Masks do not stop oxygen all together because they let oxygen in and out along with friggin Covid people. Masks do not stop you from sharing covid particles. Covid still gets through because cloth does not stop the spread. When did we all become so stupid. Good grief this is so beyond stupid. Fauci orginally shared this as well he also said that what it does do is create a sense of false security. He actually said not to wear masks because they don’t help.

  10. I am glad to see a governor with sense. He knows what is good for the people and business.
Florida hasn’t had problems, and businesses were able to stay open and people working. The vaccine passport is just another invasion of a person’s privacy, who doesn’t want it. All it will do is cause a discrimination against the person, who doesn’t want the vaccine, from being able to go to the store, or being involved in any activities. It is noone’s business if someone has had the vaccine or not. If they are going to do this then; the next step will be to do away with the HIPPA Law, then they will have some excuse as to make it easier to track someone for whatever reason.
It won’t end with this “simple little easy vaccine passport.” It has been discovered that it is a money maker. Just look at the money made off of just the masks (everywhere, not just WDW) alone, not counting all the money made on the vaccines, gloves, etc.
Sorry, I don’t trust Fauci, or any other government dept concerning the vaccine or covid. This is just my opinion, of course.

    1. It can’t be mandated by a government. It’s for companies to use as they see fit.
    2. DeSantis can’t ban it. He doesn’t have that type of power.
    3. From all the comments, Disney is going to be an even better place to go with a lot of severely awful people stating they will never go again. This is all working out so well for those of us with empathy and education :)
    • You are exactly the reason why the governor wants to ban this type of nonsense from his state. Saying that awful people like myself who believe in freedom and personal liberty should stay out of Disney is appalling.

  11. So is this to say that, for example a movie theater could not require you to have proof of vaccination to go into the theater? Trying to accurately understand the statement.

  12. Who are we protecting with a vaccine mandate? If one chooses to forgo vaccination and then catches COVID, then that is their problem. NOT YOUR (or government’s) PROBLEM. YOU can be vaccinated, and then you won’t catch it.

Having COVID “run rampant” among the non vulnerable and non vaccinated people will not result in mass sickness, death, disease spread, or overwhelming hospital usage. It will just result in herd immunity without after people have a mild cold!

Why require something that has a 15-30 people per million death rate for < 65 years old?

  13. Masks and the CDC everyone quotes when convenient:

“An overlooked study published recently by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that cloth face coverings or masks are mostly ineffective in preventing the spread of the Chinese coronavirus as promoted by public health officials.
The CDC conducted the study, largely ignored by the media, in the U.S. in July and made its findings public in September. It compared 154 “case-patients,” those who tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus disease), and a control group of 160 “control-participants,” those who were symptomatic but tested negative.
CDC researchers examined participants who reported wearing a cloth face covering or mask at least 14 days before illness onset, which falls into the incubation period of 2–14 days estimated by the agency.
The researchers found that 71 percent of the case-patients contracted the virus despite reporting “always” wearing a cloth face covering or mask at least 14 days before illness onset, and 14 percent contracted the virus despite reporting “often” wearing one at least 14 days before illness onset.
That indicates 85 percent of the COVID-19 study participants contracted the virus even after either always (71 percent) or often (14 percent) wearing a face covering or mask, suggesting the masks are not entirely effective at preventing the spread of the coronavirus.”
