Lamb Curry with Sweet Plantains and Rice – $6.25
The lamb curry had a nice, zingy aftertaste, while the rice and pigeon peas hold their own even without the sauce and meat. The rice had a good texture, and the lamb was very tender, not overcooked or chewy. The curry was flavorful without being too overpowering or spicy. On the other hand, the plantains were too mushy, and were very sweet. They seemed overcooked, but the taste wasn’t terrible. It’s a decent option.
Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewer with Steamed Rice and Coconut Lime Sauce – $7.00
The coconut lime sauce is more interesting than the shrimp which is unfortunate being they’re not marinated in it. We received five plump shrimp on a skewer, all evenly cooked, that worked well with the sauce. It’s not an overly exciting dish, but it feels like a lot for the price.
Tropical Mousse Cup: Layers of Passion Fruit Cake, Coconut Mousse and a Tropical Fruit Glaze with Fresh Pineapple – $4.50
The mousse is tart and fruity, with pineapple and mellow sweet cake all in one. The toasted coconut on top comes through in a subtle, pleasing way. The mousse itself is very gently coconut — the flavor is understated, but quite good. The cake is moist and soft, and tastes sweet, though not particularly fruity. It’s a delicious combination of flavors and textures, and the only standout dish at La Isla Fresca.
*NEW* Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co. Hibiscus Guavacation Sour Beer, Orlando, FL (3.6% ABV) – $4.50 for 6 o.z., $8.50 for 12 o.z.
From Ivanhoe Park Brewing Co.: “We added Guava to this traditional Berliner Weisse; a cloudy sour beer originating in Northern Germany that’s creation dates back to the 16th century. Low ABV, low bitterness and soured with a lactobacillus strain, it is vibrantly tart as well as amply carbonated.”
Tropical Freeze with Parrot Bay Mango Rum ($14/bottle) – $10.00
The drink was well-balanced. It wasn’t too strong or too weak. Like with most Disney cocktails, it needed to be stirred after we received it, but the taste made it worth the effort. The fruit in the drink was nice and fresh, which was nice. This drink has an overall mango fruit flavor, but it isn’t too strong or too sweet.
