Spicy Hot Dog with Pineapple Chutney and Plantain Chips – $8.00

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival Pineapple Promenade

Perhaps one of our (definitely Tom’s) favorite returning items is the spicy hot dog. You receive a full hot dog for your money, slathered in pineapple chutney and crumbled plantain chips. The hot dog delivers on flavor and spice. Each bite has a pop against the perfectly cooked exterior leading to a wonderfully spicy interior. The chutney adds a cool pineapple flavor and the chips add a nice crunch. It’s a filling dish and best shared if you plan on enjoying the rest the festival has to offer.

Mixed Berry Buttermilk Cake – $5.00

This was okay, but nobody was impressed. The cake at the bottom is dry and flavorless, and it desperately needs the berry compote. The tart, sweet taste of the berries is nice, but the cake has a firmer consistency, more like a scone or a pound cake. There were some streusel-like crunchy pieces on the cake that helped added extra flavor, but we felt like this cake was just missing something.

DOLE Whip® Soft-Serve with Fanta® (Non-Alcoholic) – $5.25

Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival Pineapple Promenade

Pineapple Fanta fills the bottom of this cup. The pineapple Dole Whip mixed with the soda works very well and surprisingly isn’t overpowering. The only problem you’re going to run into with Flower & Garden is A) the portion of Dole Whip and B) how icy it comes out, to the point of almost being flavorless. Typically the version at Magic Kingdom is very light and airy, this comes out stiff and dense. It’s still the only place to get the soft serve in Epcot, so if you feel the price is worth saving a trip to Polynesian Village or Magic Kingdom…

Frozen Desert Violet Lemonade (Non-Alcoholic) – $4.50

A slush so iconic they had to make Minnie ears to match them. We can proudly say that the admiration is much deserved. The Violet Lemonade slush is sweet, refreshing, and takes a nice picture.

*NEW* Lexington Brewing & Distilling Company Alo’hop IPA, Lexington, KY (6.5% ABV) – $4.50 / $8.50

From Lexington Brewing & Distilling Company: “A tropical punch greets you with this hopped up IPA. A nose of pineapple and mango arrive from the double dry hopping process with Simcoe, Calypso, Comet and Amarillo hops. The medium body and smooth malt profiles makes this an easy drinker with a refreshing finish. Come back time and time again to enjoy a piece of the tropics.” The taste has notes of “juicy pineapple [and] mango with a balance of mild hops and malt.”

Playalinda Brewing Company Violet Lemonade Ale, Titusville, FL (5.2% ABV) – $4.50 / $8.50

From Walter P. on Untappd: “Tastes like flowers. A little tart from the lemonade, but light and easy drinking.”
