REVIEW: St. Patrick’s Day Loaded Reuben Totchos is a Pot of Gold at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

For St. Patrick’s Day, Restaurantosaurus at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has embarked on blending the classic Reuben sandwich with a fan-favorite Totchos, resulting in this Reuben Totchos dish. While, by all accounts, the Reuben does not have Irish origins, the ingredients are a fitting tribute to a holiday that does have ties to Ireland.

St. Patrick’s Day Loaded Reuben Totchos – $7.29

Crispy tater tots loaded with nacho cheese, sautéed corned beef, sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing, and crunchy rye croutons.

We’ll admit, we went into this dish not expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised. For starters, it’s a generous portion for the $7.29 price tag — we definitely felt the heft of the offering as soon as we picked it up.

The ingredients themselves work extremely well together, too. The sauerkraut is crunchy and fresh. The tots themselves are crispy and well-cooked.

There’s no shortage of corned beef, which is not overly salty nor tough.

Thankfully, the nacho cheese was used sparingly, added a mild cheese taste but in a controlled quantity. The Thousand Island dressing was equally controlled, adding the signature tangy flavor without overpowering other ingredients.

The only part of the dish we were unimpressed by was the rye croutons. They weren’t bad but they offered neither flavor nor crunch to the rest of the ensemble.

Overall, this is a surprisingly good dish, offering a wonderfully executed combination of flavors and a pretty solid value at the same time.
