BREAKING: Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel Opening Delayed to 2022, Disney Finally Shows Video of “Real” Working Lightsaber in Action

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will take you to a galaxy far, far away for an all-immersive, two-night vacation experience that goes beyond anything Disney has ever created before. What exactly does “all-immersive” mean? Well, in honor of May the 4th, Disney is showing a little something we’ve been waiting for…

Yes, that’s a new type of lightsaber Rey is holding in her hand, created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development. Guests who experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see it in action – along with so much more – starting in 2022 when this new two-night adventure debuts. The resort hotel experience was originally set to open in 2021.

Guests visiting Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., will be the first to see characters like Rey wield a brand-new, more realistic lightsaber when this first-of-its-kind, two-night vacation experience debuts in 2022. Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes will be just one of the ways that, from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you’ll be plunged into a Star Wars story where your decisions and actions – or even the casual conversations you may have – determine how your personal journey unfolds.

Disney released other new details and concept art of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel today as well, which you can see here.

If that’s per cabin. That’s not bad at all.

“Watching that lightsaber activate right before your eyes” — does that mean it’s not for sale, I only get to watch it if I stay at the hotel? The light saber does look better in that it extends from the handle like it’s supposed to. Is that a magic trick or does it really extend? If it’s just a trick, then Disney can’t sell it. Furthermore, now that they can do that, why is the light part so thin? It’s supposed to be thicker than that.
