Earlier today, Imagineer Zach Riddley shared an update and photos from the new Creations Shop coming to EPCOT this summer. Among the photos was both a look at the current state of the store, and concept art from the original designs of EPCOT, showing how the new shop is intended to honor that aesthetic.
The post includes some concept art from the original design of EPCOT. Riddley talks about the priority that Walt Disney Imagineering placed on staying true to the original design and aesthetic, that the new design should “feel like EPCOT”.
The original designs featured these vertical columns or “ribs” that allowed the space to be “open and give flexibility to the program featured inside”.
Riddley shared this look at the shop in its current state during construction, showing how the original vertical “ribs” are still in tact.
The ceiling inside the shop features these wooden beams that run between the columns, or “ribs”. These beams serve two main purposes: to draw the eye from front to back, and to create space to integrate lighting and air conditioning “for a seamless and functional look”.
Riddley’s post containing the details can be found on his Instagram account.
Creations Shop is scheduled to open later this Summer in EPCOT. For more updates from Walt Disney World, follow WDWNT on Twitter.
