Addition of “Standby” to Wait Times in My Disney Experience Suggests FastPass May Return Soon

Since Walt Disney World reopened last year, FastPass+ service has been suspended due to COVID-19. However, with physical distancing changes and more, we may see the convenient line-skipper return soon (altered to a paid-format per the long-standing rumors, but nothing is confirmed yet). A My Disney Experience app update also points to the return of FastPasses.

The word “standby” has been added to the posted wait times in the app, suggesting there is (or will be) an option other than standby. This may also indicate virtual queues will be instated at more attractions.

  1. for any coveinience chapek offers you, there will be a price you must pay to get it. and God how i wish i ever saw a 30 minute wait for peter pan’s flight. have any of you ever seen that?

    • Not in the FP+ days. 100:1 queue ratios kept it in the 90-120 range. Let’s hope they just say goodbye to FP altogether.

  2. WDW needs to bring back fast pass to be competitive with Universal. If you stay at certain Universal resorts, you get a fast pass for all attractions or you can pay a flat rate for the fast pass. Disney guests are paying thousands of dollars for the privilege of going on a Disney vacation, therefore Disney needs to bring back the perks. With no magical express, they should offer free parking for people who have to rent a rental car. Get with it Disney!!! Don’t expect us to pay for your losses during covid.

    • Any type of line skipping mechanism is a massive waste of time- universal is a great example. The queues for their “express” pass are often longer than the standby queues. I’ve waited 45 minutes in the express lane when the standby queue was at 30 at least 10 times. It sounds good, it gets you to make dining plans and justify spending money certain ways, but it absolutely does not help you with your time. It is a marketing tactic.

  3. I just remembered that Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway didn’t do the pre show for long before the shutdown. I hope they can start playing it again.

  4. I honestly hope it doesn’t return. Lines are moving, waits are relatively short. It’s been nice NOT having FastPass slow up the works.

    • What Disney park have you been going to??? While wait times aren’t outrageous, they haven’t at all been short, as you stated. Lines are longer than ever – case in point is Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland having an extended/overflow queue into Liberty Square thru the Columbia Harbor House restaurant!

Things like that are NOT sustainable at WDW, and therefore FP+ needs to come back soon, especially as we move thru the busier seasons of the summer and into the fall/50th anniversary. Long overdue at this point.

      • That was for physical distancing- when were YOU in the parks last? Peter Pan is a 30 minute wait today and most days without FastPass. When that 100:1 FP+/Standby ratio kicks in it’ll be back up to 120 minutes for the exact length it is today. Anyone who likes fastpass clearly goes to WDW VERY rarely.

    • So you can sprint across an entire park to make a deadline just to wait roughly 20-30 minutes instead of just waiting 45 for the ride you’re close to? Great plan.

  5. As a das user i was told there will not be fp+ for a long time because they are trying to reset the system makes me wonder if they might bring dl system to wdw… aka you pay to have the ability to pick 3 passes the rest of us get passes like the paper ones (which we all know worked better).

  6. Can you all not wait like human beings before fp you wait now you wait and btw the line moves really well wo fps so no to bringing it back bc half the rides do not need it anyway.

  7. yeah for fast pass. It is great for younger children who have a more difficult time waiting for an hour in line. I hope they bring it fast soon so I can book our times.
