REVIEW: “Disney Family Night Dinner” Package with Food, Fun, and Games Is One of the Better Counter Service Experiences at Disney World
Hungry guests have a new option for takeaway at Caribbean Beach Resort with the new Disney Family Night Dinner. Available each night from 5pm – 10pm, the new meals serve 3-4 guests and come with a shareable meal, make-your-own dessert, and original card-type game. Let’s check it out!
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Family Night Dinner – $79
The meal comes neatly packaged in takeout containers with a crate and a bag for easy travel.
It also comes with everything you need — plates, napkins, and silverware. Interestingly enough, the cutlery is biodegradable.
The black napkins are of good quality, sit nicely on the lap, and do a better job cleaning up after the meal than the usual counter service product. The card-style game is in a black box with Minnie’s bow on the front.
Roasted Jamaican-style Chicken, Fried Yucca, Cilantro Rice, Seasonal Vegetables, and Caribbean Pull-apart Rolls with Onion Jam and Guava Butter
The pull-apart rolls are similar to what used to be served at Sebastian’s Bistro pre-COVID, but slightly altered. This version is less oily, and the bread is much firmer. Regardless, the rolls easily separate into pieces so you can spread the accompaniments on them. The onion jam is our favorite, while the butter was a little too hard from being refrigerated when we picked up the meal.
The chicken comes with 6 pieces, legs, and breasts. They are quite big, so Disney’s assumption that this meal may only feed 3-4 people could be wrong depending on who is partaking. 4 grown adults could easily be full from all of this in our experience.
The chicken is very spicy from the seasoning compared to most dishes at Walt Disney World, so be warned if you are a picky eater. Otherwise, each bite was juicy and never dry. This might be the best counter service chicken of all on property.
The fried yucca was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and really well seasoned. It fills the bottom of the large chicken tub.
The vegetables were solid, but were probably the weakest part of the offering. They might have been a bit undercooked.
Underneath the vegetables is a GIANT portion of cilantro rice. It wasn’t as good as Chipotle, but it was still very tasty, packing in flavor with rice of the perfect consistency.
It all makes for a pretty dish.
Decorate-Your-Own Mickey & Minnie Cookies
The decorate-your-own Mickey & Minnie cookies come with frosting, sprinkles, and four plain sugar cookies. Two pre-decorated Mickey & Minnie cookies are also included. The pre-decorated cookies are going to be better than the ones you make simply because they seem to use better-quality icing for them. The sugar cookies are not anything special, but they are quite good for what they are.
You can choose from three different color mixes of Mickey head sprinkles (or choose them all!).
The kit also comes with red, white, and black frosting. Sadly, you are not given any instruments to ice the cookies properly, so you’ll just have to use your provided, biodegradable utensils.
It’s always going to be fun to decorate your own cookies, so this is a great offering.
The card-based game is nothing like we expected. I’m not even entirely sure why it is a card-based game or advertised as one. I was kind of expecting something like Go Fish. That being said, you get a cute set of buttons to take home, and younger guests will probably have a few minutes of fun with the activities.
In review, “Disney Family Night Dinner” is a thoughtful offering that provides very good food, a fun dessert, and a small diversion for younger guests. It succeeds in most cases, even if the game portion is a little bland. At the very least, though, the buttons do make for a cute souvenir, and it’s a fun package to bring back to your room after a busy day in the parks. If we had one issue, it would be that the meal does not include beverages, but we enjoyed it regardless. We highly recommend this offering if you feel it will fit your needs.
