Gideon’s Bakehouse‘s Cookie of the Month is a celebrated affair (check our review of June’s cookie) and we decided to join the festivities this morning and grab the new and very limited edition July flavor of the month saluting a fruit we are more partial to — Florida Key Lime!
We grabbed a menu and joined the standing queue to review our tart and tangy options.
While the flavor of the month is normally only offered within said month, the Flavors of Florida will be available past July 31st through August 12th to take part in Disney Spring’s “Flavors of Florida” Event – passing a nod on to the almighty Florida Key Lime!
While we waited, we took a moment to appreciate the beautifully creepy artwork that is unique to each month’s menu. Gideon’s Bakehouse Instagram gives us some food for thought with this one:
“Did You Know?: Florida legend tells us that the key lime was initially given to early Spanish explorers by a pod of beautiful, raven-haired mermaids they called ‘Las Agrias.’ Years later, Florida fishermen introduced the world to Key Lime Pie.”
Chocolate Chip Key Lime Pie Cookie – $6
Our vanilla bean cookie dough infused with Florida key lime juice and covered with chocolate chips and our special key lime pie crumbs.
The Key Lime Chocolate Chip Cookie is the standard almost 1/2 pound rendition and looks very much like their Original Chocolate Chip, but with a spattering of sea salt and cake crumbs over top. The rich chocolate chips and under-baked dough you’ve come to expect are present.
The lime flavor is subtle, matching the look of their Original Chocolate Chip Cookie in taste as well as looks with just a squeeze of key lime for flavor. Key lime is normally a very strong, tangy flavor so we were expecting more of a punch with this one, but it cut through the chocolate and salt nicely – just not so in-your-face as you would expect.
Key Lime Pie Cake – $9
A 3-layer vanilla key lime cake with tangy key lime cream cheese frosting and house-made graham cracker crust accents.
Where the cookie is subtle, the cake slice is not. The cake itself has a classic, creamy vanilla base with a tangy overlay of key lime. It is way gentler than the icing, which is soft, creamy, and packed with powerful key lime flavoring. We would suggest this only if you are an established fan of the key lime flavoring.
Graham cracker crumbles pair perfectly and tone it down just slightly. This cake, as with all Gideon’s cake slices, are a frosting lovers dream!
Overall, we enjoyed this twist on our Gideon’s favorites and would get them again!
If you forget to bring a friend, the limit for each is two per person, per day though pre-orders are available online at Gideon’s Bakehouse’s East End Market location.

Looks good but the prices will keep me away.
