RUMOR: Almost All Disney Stores in North America Closing This Year

An announcement will reportedly be made tomorrow addressing the impending closure of nearly all of the remaining Disney Stores across North America. A few Disney Store Outlets will remain open for the time being, but most standard Disney Stores will close by the end of September.

Disney had originally announced the closure of 60 stores earlier this year as they shift focus to online retail with shopDisney.com. That announcement was soon followed by more closures throughout the year.

Disney has also partnered with Target to bring miniature Disney Stores to the popular retail chain in select cities.

The closure of most Disney Stores in North America will affect many Cast Members in divisions across the company, especially those front-line Cast Members employed at Disney Store locations.

  1. Freakin jerks! Why do they have to take everything away??! Ugh.. my kids are not going to have any nostalgic memories because everything is closing and/or changing. Thanks a lot, Disney.

  2. If Disney plans to close all their stores and use shop Disney. They better be ready to do a lot of damage control because shop Disney shipping and ordering is a chaotic mess!! Chapek is ruining the magic of our beloved Disney

  3. If this happens, Disney absolutely must begin doing Free Returns on items from shopDisney.com. They can certainly afford it, and it’s ridiculous how much it costs to mail items back to them. Or make free returns to Target stores like Amazon does with Kohls.

    • Very true. Their sizing is very inconsistent and the quality of some items is terrible. Necessary to see it in person and try on, and with almost no free shipping options, it sucks to order online.

  4. Disney store Palma (Mallorca-Spain) is scheduled to close October 2021. 😩 Shop is filled with ads encouraging people to buy online …

  5. It’s sad to see Disney stores closing. Because in a way, going to a Disney Store in the mall for some, is it close to some people can get to going to Disney World. Let’s face it, not everybody can always afford a trip to the Disney parks. So in a little way it’s like having Disney parks close to you in your hometown. Also please save Splash Mountain. The stories based in Splash Mountain are from African culture, Mayan culture, and stories from Cherokee tribes. Just expand the parks, and add a princess and the frog attraction.

    • This is my thoughts exactly! There has been so many times this past year I have been sad and down and that was my place to go to bring Joy to my soul

  6. There is a certain thrill that you get when you walk into a Disney store. My kids are grown but I was always drawn in even so. Finally grands came along and although not grown they just became a bit to old. I found that I left all the stress of the world at the entrance of the store and put no limit of time on myself as I walked around. On line it is just so limited and selection is lame. Nothing compares to, I have to admit, just being compulsive and going out of the store with a bag full of merchandise. There will be some child I can immediately have a present for. You took my store away already and Iam quite sad. If I could wish upon a star I would wish for the stores to stay open.

  7. Can confirm that both Charlotte, NC, area stores are closing by September 15th. Allegedly will be announced to the media on Monday.

  8. I can confirm it will happen a lot sooner than end of the year. Liquidation at some locations begins tomorrow. It is worldwide except for Japan.

  9. This has already happened in the UK. Cast members who had worked for years in their stores and truly loved their work were devastated
