The Walter E. Disney train of the Walt Disney World Railroad was seen backing into the maintenance garage backstage at Walt Disney World today.
Thanks to a tip from an anonymous WDWNT reader and photos from reader Felipe Botero, who both witnessed the train, we can also report that it seems to have been repainted recently.
The Walt Disney World Railroad closed in December 2018 to construct TRON Lightcycle / Run near the track. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, trains sat on display in the park for guests to view and take pictures with. Since then, sections of the track and the Main Street, U.S.A. station have received refurbishment.
Many hope the classic attraction will be open in time for Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021.

Hi can’t seem to find the references made by Orlando Mike?
The tweet was deleted.
I’d be shocked if it opened by October 1st. Extremely unlikely unless it’s just a temporary setup and Tron construction pauses.
The train really does seem like something that needs to be there for the 50th. I hope they make it happen, even if they can only run it on part of the track and have to run in reverse back to Main Street, or kick everyone off at Storybook Circus and run it without guests though the construction. Even if it can’t return as a ride, hopefully they could at least park a train in front of the station again.
3 years the railroad has been closed. It is iconic to the Magic Kingdom.
Does Disney care? NO! This has been ridiculously too long to shut down
an attraction for one that has nothing to do with Disney. Ironic.
Um, Tron is a Disney movie…… 😊
It had been shut down to do the Tunnel over Tron.
The Tron excuse is beyond old. They could still operate the Railroad between the other two stations and given that it has been closed for 3 years it’s time for a temporary solution to get the iconic attraction running despite Tron.
