BREAKING: Disney Announces Interactive MagicBand+

Disney has just announced MagicBand+, a new version of MagicBand which will interact with guests by providing light and haptic feedback from within the park.

The new MagicBand+ system will also be used for interacting with the Fab 50 golden statues. Disney has also said the bands will allow guests to experience nighttime fireworks spectaculars in ways they were never before able to.

After a guest enters a theme park, MagicBand+ will come alive at various times with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations and gesture recognition, enhancing the environment’s immersive storytelling. The wearable will allow guests to engage with favorite Disney moments in new ways and discover new interactive experiences, including:

  • Play like a bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away and find virtual bounties throughout Black Spire Outpost in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Interact with the “Disney Fab 50 Character Collection,” the golden sculptures spread throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks.
  • Experience nighttime spectaculars in a new way as they see their bands light up and complement the magic in the skies, including the new “Harmonious” at EPCOT and “Disney Enchantment” at Magic Kingdom Park.

A variety of MagicBand+ styles will be available, just like MagicBand. MagicBand+ will also have all of the functionality of the previous generation MagicBands.

Current generation MagicBands will continue to work for park entry, photo linking, and other existing functions.

MagicBand+ will debut in 2022 as part of “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.”

  1. Why? Now we know why prices keep going up and previously free perks cost money now….so they can afford to roll out pointless shit like this. Didn’t they say they’d be doing away with bands and transition to contactless phone interactivity? We really care if our wrists light up during fireworks, don’t we? Here’s a revelation for them…WE DO NOT LOOK AT OUR WRISTS DURING FIREWORKS, WE LOOK INTO THE SKY! And it’ll probably add another hundred dollars to use. What a joke.

  2. This is cool. Would also be cool if they added an app to smart watches. So we don’t look weird having to watch like things on our arms 🤣

  3. Any info as to whether these same new capabilities will be available through Genie or Genie+? Or with an Apple Watch?

  4. These new interactive sound like they might be fun. I hope they don’t phase out my old magic bands. Bands are a lot more fun to use than trying to work with regular old cell phones. Especially With the horrible Wi-Fi available currently at Walt Disney World. Has the price for these new interactive bands been released yet?
    Thanks

  5. Just speculation… will be priced at $75-$80 for basic and $125 for limited edition. The moment when a child “expresses” a desire for one? During fireworks when you are about to leave the park. lol

  6. Its not fair to those who are going before 2022. I am a total kid and would love to interact with the statues and firework

  7. Since they’re sure to come at a premium, they’d need to fix my one big gripe with magic bands to get me to buy in.

They need either user changeable batteries, or a charging solution.

  8. considering the new disney profits at all costs, i wonder if you have to rent these for so much per day? just like genie and lightning lanes?

  9. Just curious – do you think these new magicbands have an internal battery? If so, would they have an external charging port? If not, how long would they “interact” before going dead? I love the idea, just wondering about longevity for the extra expense. Cheers!
