REVIEW: ‘Frankenstein Dog’ is a Frightfully Delicious Halloween Snack at Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan has been keeping their chefs hard at work this year to create incredible new snacks and treats to celebrate the park’s 20th anniversary, and the return of Halloween Horror Nights is no exception! At the Hot Dogs trailer in the New York area’s No Limit! Market, unsuspecting guests can chow down on this green monstrosity.

Frankenstein Dog – ¥900 ($8.19)

At the equivalent of $8.19, this hot dog is rather expensively priced for Japanese park standards, but you get quite the presentation, with both the commemorative wrapper and a specially decorated hot dog loaded with topping! The topping is made of basil and bacon along with cheese and some potato chunks.

There’s even a plug made of bread baked into the side of the hot dog!

The wrapper comes with the face of Frankenstein’s monster along with a small design of the lab on the back side.

Although the Jaws Dog from earlier this year definitely wins in cuteness, the Frankenstein Dog knocks Jaws out of the park in flavor! The bun, while green to match the monster’s skin tone, is otherwise flavorless — a plus in this case. The delicious (if a bit runny) basil and bacon cheese sauce compliments a juicy, firm hot dog that hits all the notes you’d want from a normal hot dog. The sauce itself largely leans into basil rather than bacon (of which we hardly tasted any), but that’s not necessarily to its detriment. But beware the flavorless black drizzle, it stains fingers very easily! Bring some napkins and eat the hot dog over the ground so you don’t get any on your clothes.

All in all, we highly recommend anyone visiting Universal Studios Japan to try the Frankenstein Dog in the No Limit! Market. The Hot Dog trailer is open all day (even during Halloween Horror Nights), pop on over if you’ve got a deathly hunger. What are your thoughts on this hot dog? Let us know in the comments below!
