The animals around Walt Disney World are getting in on the spookiest time of the year with special pumpkin enrichment. Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of the Animals, Science, and Environment department, shared some images on Instagram this morning.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom and The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT, animals enjoyed Halloween-themed treats and enrichment. Behavioral enrichment is used to change the environment and encourage exploration to promote physical and psychological well-being in the animals.
While some animals play with the items, others (like the Galapagos Tortoises above) enjoy a festive snack.
Cast Members make the enrichment fun for guests, too. The Jack-o’-lantern above was given Mickey ears by attaching smaller gourds to the large pumpkin.
Even our aquatic friends at EPCOT got in on the festivities. The Sea Horses received a spiderweb to latch onto with their tails. For more fun at The Sea with Nemo & Friends, stop by the Sea Urchins and check out their 3D printed Mickey ear hats!
