Tokyo Disney Resort quietly announced today that they would partner with ChargeSPOT, a popular mobile battery rental service already found in train stations and convenience stores around Japan, to bring mobile battery rental spots to various locations around Tokyo Disney Resort. This will bring Tokyo Disney Resort in line with the US parks, which play host to FuelRod battery kiosks.
Locations have already been installed around the park according to Twitter user @z324yoko_r. These kiosks are not currently in service, as the partnership isn’t slated for launch until later this month.
ChargeSPOT uses an app to scan a QR code at the station or unlock via your smartphone to rent a mobile battery for up to 5 days. Guests will be able to rent batteries at the resort and return them to any of the 25,000 ChargeSPOT kiosk across Japan, located in different locales ranging from FamilyMart convenience stores to Karaoke-Kan locations and nearly every Tokyo Metro station. The batteries come with built-in connectors for Lightning, Micro USB, and USB-C, making them compatible with nearly all modern smartphones.
Charges for renting from Tokyo Disney Resort will be slightly increased compared to other locations, and ChargeSPOT discounts will not be available for use to or from Tokyo Disney Resort kiosks. The price table is as follows:
- 1 hour or less—¥180 ($1.59)
- 1-2 hours—¥360 ($3.18)
- 2-3 hours—¥540 ($4.77)
- 3-48 hours—¥900 ($7.96)
- 2-3 days—¥1080 ($9.55)
- 3-4 days—¥1260 ($11.14)
- 4-5 days—¥1440 ($12.73)
- 5 days or more—¥3300 ($29.18) including penalties
Compare this to ¥165 for the first 30 minutes, and ¥330 for up to 48 hours at any regular ChargeSPOT station, and the premium for renting directly from Tokyo Disney Resort becomes very clear. Guests may rent or return batteries to/from outside of Tokyo Disney Resort kiosks, and the fare rate will be applied based on where the battery was rented from.
Locations are currently set for both sides of the Tokyo Disneyland Entrance, near Theatre Orleans in Adventureland, the Critter Country restrooms, near Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Fantasyland, and across from Star Tours: The Adventures Continue in Tomorrowland, as well as in the main parking garage at Tokyo Disneyland. Over at Tokyo DisneySea, kiosks are set to be installed at the north and south exits of Tokyo DisneySea Station on the Disney Resort Line, near Il Postino Stationery and near the Fortress Explorations restrooms in Mediterranean Harbor, in Horizon Bay Restaurant in Port Discovery, at the Hangar Stage restrooms in Lost River Delta, and in Nautilus Gifts in Mysterious Island, as well as in the main parking garage.
No launch date has been given yet other than late October, so we can hopefully look forward to the service beginning soon. Are you excited to have a battery rental option at Tokyo Disney Resort? Let us know in the comments below!
