Disney Films Won Six Oscars at the Academy Awards Last Night

Several films from Disney-owned studios took home Oscars last night at the 94th Academy Awards. After receiving 27 nominations, five Disney-owned films took home a combined total of six awards.

“Encanto”

“Encanto” was awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, beating out Pixar’s “Luca” and Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon,” among others. Subscribers can view all three films on Disney+.

Encanto was also nominated for Best Original Song (Dos Oruguitas) and Best Score but did not emerge victorious in either category.

“Cruella”

Disney’s live-action “Cruella” film won the Oscar for Best Costume Design. It was nominated but did not win in the Hair and Make-up Styling category. “Cruella” is now streaming on Disney+.

“West Side Story”

Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” was nominated for 7 Academy Awards. Nominations came through for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Sound.

Ultimately “West Side Story” took home a single win for Ariana Debose as Best Supporting Actress.

“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”

Disney now owns Fox Searchlight Pictures, which produced “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” The biopic won both Best Hair and Makeup and Best Actress categories.

Jessica Chastain took the statuette home for her role as Tammy Faye Bakker. The movie is now streaming on Disney+.

“Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)”

This film from Searchlight Pictures, Disney’s Onyx Collective, and Hulu won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

First-time director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson received his first win for the documentary, along with producers Joseph Patel, Robert Fyvolent, and David Dinerstein.

Disney also owns ABC, the network that broadcasts the show.
