Gov. Ron DeSantis expressed his support for ending Disney’s “special privileges” in Florida, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Disney has long held political influence in the state and donates large sums of money to both Republicans and Democrats. It’s also one of the top employers in the state, providing over 60,000 jobs.
“As a matter of first principle, I don’t support special privileges in law, just because a company is powerful, and they’ve been able to wield a lot of power,” said DeSantis.
DeSantis didn’t go into details other than mentioning the exemption he and the other lawmakers gave to Disney last year in excluding theme park companies from a bill that sought to stop social media outlets from de-platforming political candidates.
DeSantis said the exemption was “ridiculous” and “embarrassing,” but according to the Sentinel, his legislative affairs director coordinated with legislators and the Walt Disney Company to write the policy. Now, DeSantis wants to take back that allowance and change the policy to include Disney. The law in question is currently wrapped up in legal battles after a judge ruled it unconstitutional last summer.
We reported earlier this week that state Republicans have reported meeting to potentially overturn the legislation that created the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which lets Disney regulate their land use, provide fire department and other emergency services, and more.
DeSantis did not comment on the Reedy Creek Improvement District debate at this time.

Let me start off saying I love Disney I have for 40 years. I really hate they are putting me in a position where I considering canceling my family’s season passes and Disney + subscription. Please Disney stay out of politics, be the place where we can go to enjoy imagination and make family memories. Sorry for the rant everyone!
