REVIEW: Dublin Burger and Irish Cream Gelato Shake Return to D-Luxe Burger at Disney Springs

D-Luxe Burger has been a guest favorite when it comes to burgers, fries, and milkshakes on Walt Disney World property since it opened nearly six years ago. Now that March is upon us, the restaurant located in the Town Center district of Disney Springs has re-introduced two limited-time offerings in honor of St. Patrick’s Day – the Dublin Burger and Irish Cream Gelato Shake.

Dublin Burger – $13.49

Two-Pressed Signature-blend Beef Patties with Irish Cheddar, Corned Beef, Shoe String Fried Onions, Irish Stout Barbecue Sauce, Lettuce, and Grilled Onions

The Dublin Burger makes us feel like we stumbled upon a pot of gold. The patty was cooked medium-well, but still maintained all of the flavor and juiciness you’d expect from a properly cooked patty. All of the ingredients work extremely well together – the Irish stout barbecue sauce, for example, added a nice tanginess to the burger, but in no way overpowered it as some barbecue sauces do. The generous layers of Irish cheddar and corned beef also contributed to the variety of flavors found on this burger, and much like the sauce, none of them were so strong as to imbalance the overall taste.

The Irish cheddar itself is fairly mild and despite the multiple slices that are served atop the corned beef, the burger does not have a cheesy taste nor gooey texture. Speaking of the corned beef, it is not overly salty, and while the taste of it certainly comes through with each bite, it serves to accentuate the other flavors of the dish instead of muting them.

The remainder of the toppings did little to help or hurt the burger. The grilled onions were barely noticeable, and similarly, the shoestring fried onions, while adding a minimal amount of crunch, did not impact the overall flavor. The lettuce also added a slight bit of texture to each bite, thanks to its freshness.

If any fault is to be found within the burger, it would be with the bun. While we’re grateful that its firmness helped keep the myriad of ingredients together, it was a bit dry. However, considering the quality and flavor of the sandwich, this is an extremely minor quibble with what is overall an excellent item.

Irish Cream Gelato Shake – $7.50

Vanilla Gelato blended with Irish Cream and Toasted Marshmallow flavors and drizzled with Caramel

Irish Cream Milkshake

The Irish Cream Gelato Shake is the other seasonal addition in advance of St. Patrick’s Day. While D-Luxe Burger offers a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic shakes, the Irish Cream is (a bit surprisingly) of the non-alcoholic variety. The shake, in addition to its gelato base, has Irish cream, caramel, and toasted marshmallow flavoring added. It’s then topped with whipped cream and green sprinkles to further the Irish theme.

Irish Cream Milkshake

The texture of the shake is spot-on. The gelato is blended to the perfect consistency, thick enough to not let you forget this is indeed a milkshake, but still fluid enough that it will successfully make the journey through the straw. In fact, the paper straw survived being submerged in the shake for quite some time, which would have been challenging in a more liquidy shake.

Irish Cream Milkshake

When compared with the Dublin burger, this shake has a lot less going on. The primary, and really only, flavor you’ll get from this blended treat is the Irish cream. Even with the caramel that’s drizzled throughout the inside of the cup, it’s difficult to make out anything but the namesake flavor. That isn’t to say the shake isn’t good, though – if you enjoy Irish cream, this shake will deliver a strong dose of it while not quite crossing the line of being “too much.” As is the case with many shakes which focus on a single flavor, that taste will be quite prevalent, but thankfully, D-Luxe Burger has been careful not to make this overpowering.

Burger and Milkshake

Overall, these two items combine to form a winning St. Patrick’s Day pairing. Either item is great as a standalone option though, and not just in March. The Dublin Burger is the shining star of the two options with its variety of well-balanced tastes and combination of textures, but the Irish Cream Gelato Shake is no slouch with its equally well-executed texture and plentiful flavor. We certainly feel like the luck of the Irish was with us today.
